Reef’s “Free the Sea Movement 2″
The surf and lifestyle brand popular worldwide, Reef, continues to advocate responsible travel and environmental conservation with an exciting weekend starting September 29 until October 1 in Baler for its Free the Sea Movement 2.
In partnership with WWF Philippines, the Free the Sea Movement 2 was set in one of the Philippines’ top hotspots for surfing, Baler, Aurora. The fun-filled three-day event introduced guests to a round of activities where they experienced the waves plus the beauty of Sabang Beach.
Free the Sea Movement 2 started with a coastal clean-up and a talk from WWF Philippines’ Mr. Ruel Barte about sustainable tourism, a cause near and dear to Reef’s heart as it is in line with the global humanitarian outreach campaign “We Heart.”
Reef’s Marketing Head, Marnelli Garland shared, “As travelers, we may be just passing through other beaches and cities but through our We Heart campaign, we want to educate people on the importance of leaving a positive impact on the local communities we visit,”
“With more and more travelers discovering the beauty of our islands and with the rise of local tourism, now is a good time for us to educate people on the environmental impact tourism has and how we all need to work together maintain our beaches so people can continue to enjoy them for years to come,” she added.
Reef started the coastal clean-up in partnership with WWF, Surfari Philippines, and other volunteers in removing the wastes and objects that were not part of Sabang Beach’s beauty. Afterwards, all guests got to enjoy what Sabang Beach is famous for: Surfing while taking on the amazing waves.
Volunteers were able to connect with nature again as they learned how to ride the waves, thanks to the lessons conducted by Nalu Surf Camp.
During the evening, Reef presented a donation in benefit of WWF’s environmental programs. The night was filled with great music courtesy of Soundcloud Philippines’ Ann Clerigo and Indie Band Banna Harbera as volunteers enjoy drinks while savoring the beauty of Baler.
The next day opened with more to offer to surf enthusiasts as they witness the Surfari Beginners’ Competition. Shan Alejos won a customized surfboard after bagging the 1st place for the Tandem Category. Mikaela Alde followed as the 2nd placer, and Joana Valencia came in the 3rd place. For the Singles category, Juan Carlos Angeles grabbed the first place, with Marcus Dieter and JP Pang following as second and third placers.
The exciting and fun-filled weekend was capped by a festive After Party with performances from Eazyhead, DJ Doms Badwolf, and DJ CC.
“Baler was the perfect setting for us to promote responsible travel and environmental conservation, while at the same time, giving everyone a taste of what they can enjoy if we remember to care of our beaches – which is delicious local food and music, white beaches, clear water and of course, gigantic waves and surfing like no other!” Gaerlan said.
