PLDT Volleyball Stars Recharge in Naga During Peñafrancia Festival
Fresh from securing a bronze medal at the 2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference, PLDT High Speed Hitters outside hitters Alleiah Malaluan and Joan Monares traded intense rallies and match pressure for the festive atmosphere of Naga City during the Peñafrancia Festival.

The visit gave the two volleyball stars an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with fans, and experience one of Bicol’s most significant annual celebrations. The Peñafrancia Festival brought around 1.2 million devotees to Camarines Sur, filling Naga City with religious traditions, cultural activities, and a strong sense of Bicolano community spirit.
For Malaluan and Monares, the trip came at a meaningful point in their season. PLDT secured its second podium finish in the league’s flagship conference, following the team’s championship victory the previous year.
From the PVL Court to Naga City
After weeks of demanding competition, the athletes welcomed the chance to step away from the court and enjoy the festivities.
Their visit included a courtesy call with Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo and local government officials, as well as meet-and-greet activities with members of the local sports community.
The experience also allowed the players to meet supporters who continue to follow their journey both on and off the court.

For Malaluan, the former De La Salle University Lady Spiker, the trip offered more than a break from volleyball. It became an opportunity to recharge before the next chapter of the season.
“After such an intense Invitational Conference, our visit to Naga City became such a special breather for us,” Malaluan shared. “Feeling the love of the Nagueño fans at Peñafrancia reminded us why we play the game. Seeing everyone united in celebration gives us a whole new wave of energy as we reset and get ready to fight even harder in the next conference.”
Joan Monares Experiences the Peñafrancia Spirit
For Monares, the Naga visit also marked a memorable moment after earning her first professional medal.
The former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons captain experienced the festival alongside her teammates and connected with local supporters.
“The energy in Naga was amazing. It was so full of life!” Monares said. “Connecting with the community during Peñafrancia was an incredible experience. Off the court, downtime with the team and connecting with fans who support us from afar is what keeps us grounded.”
The trip highlighted a different side of the athletes. Away from competition, Malaluan and Monares were able to spend time with the community and experience the traditions that make Peñafrancia an important part of Naga City’s identity.
