Late in June this year, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), the Philippines’ mobile leader has just signed an exclusive partnership with the country’s leader in magazine publishing, Summit Media (Summit), to give mobile device subscribers of Smart easier and more convenient access to digital books and magazines using their electronic devices.
Through the use of mobile application called Buqo, more than 56 million subscribers of Smart all over the world will have gained access to books and magazines in digital format as a result of the partnership between Smart and Summit. Using this mobile application under either prepaid or postpaid subscription from Smart, subscribers will be able to make digital downloads of whichever reading item they may choose.

Limcaoco, Head for Innovations & Product Development Group at Smart stated, “With this groundbreaking partnership, we are giving our subscribers a chance to enjoy unique and relevant digital content on their mobile devices.” In addition, “Now, they can use only their Smart prepaid and postpaid subscriptions as a key to the vast world of digital content available through Buqo.”

When spoken to about the topic, Lisa Gokongwei-Cheng, President of Summit Media, stated, “The low credit card penetration in the Philippines has always been a barrier for companies offering virtual goods to Filipino consumers.” To continue, she stated, “By partnering with Smart, we lower the barrier to entry and give more users access to a wide range of content that can be unlocked using only their cellphone load.”
