Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup at Gang Yuan Beef Noodle Restaurant
Kaohsiung, Taiwan — Our last night in the city of Kaohsiung saw us visit one of the popular noodle restaurants in town after it was recommended by our tour guide. Though is not as fancy as other restaurants we dined in during our stay in the city, it equally evoked the similar experience. The restaurant is simple, yet serves some of the most delicious dishes the city is known for.

Gang Yuan Beef Noddle Restaurant has been around for decades and knows perfectly how to make customers, new or regular, enjoy beef noodles.
When you are in a foreign country, it is normal to be cautious of trying local food. But when you see locals also queue up to get a seat in the restaurant, you know you are up for a treat. That is simply reassuring. And that was exactly what our experience was at Gang Yuan Beef Noodle Restaurant. This place is usually packed and we were lucky to find space because as soon as we got our table, the crowd started to form and we can see the long queue from where we were seated.

Gang Yuan Beef Noodles is famous for loading an incredible amount of delicious flavor into a deviously simple bowl of noodle soup. Gang Yuan is known for focusing entirely on the rustic Taiwanese cuisine. The famous beef, which is usually tender and can easily fall off in strips from your chopsticks, is complemented by the house special side dish comprising of cucumber sticks with garlic and sesame oil.
Both the dry beef noodle and soup beef noodle are worth trying out, though they have different taste. At around TWD110, this dish is a must if you want to make your trip to Kaohsiung as authentic as possible.

Beef noodle soup is a traditional Taiwanese dish, and there is no better place to experience it than Gang Yuan. The dry beef noodle is also growing in popularity, especially because of the ease of eating, which is facilitated by the small amount of concentrated oily broth that settles at the bottom of the bowl, clinging to the well-cooked noodles. The beefy flavor is livened up by pops of freshness from green onions. Whether dry or soup, the noodles are nice and thick, with a robust chewiness. The dry beef noodle is great but it doesn’t really recapture that greatness of the classic beef soup noodle.

Besides the signature beef noodles, visitors can also try the restaurant’s bamboo shoot noodle. It is supposed to great, with scallion and pork. Another dish you can try is the braised pig knuckles. It is the best you will ever taste.

Since everyone ordered Beef Noodles, I want to be more adventurous by ordering Pork knuckle soup noodles. It’s not as popular as their beef noodles but it’s also considered as a house specialty. The noodle is perfectly cooked and the pork broth is heavenly. The pork knuckle was tender and flavorful as well. I was really happy I ordered it 🙂
Gang Yuan Beef Noodle Restaurant is suitable for all type of guest – senior, family with kids, couple, solo or group.
