Birth Certificates Are No Longer Required For Passport Renewal
Manila, Philippines — If you are among those who are planning to renew their Philippine passport, here is good news for you: the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has recently announced that birth certificate is no longer a requirement when renewing a Philippine passport.

It is according to the Department Order No. 03-2019 of the DFA, signed in January 2019.

But, of course, there are instances when you need to present the birth certificate. Here are those:
- If it is your first time to apply for a passport
- If you are renewing a lost or mutilated passport
- If your name is in the DFA watchlist
- If you are renewing an old brown or green passport that has no complete middle name
- If the renewal requires an alteration in personal information

What this means is that you only need to require the following documents when renewing your passport:
- Accomplished application form
- Confirmed online appointment
- Personal appearance
- Present ePassport with a photocopy of the data page

For minors, or those not older than 18 years old, here are the required documents they need to prepare:
- Confirmed online appointment
- Accomplished application form
- Personal appearance plus either parent or authorized adult companion
- Present ePassport
- Photocopy of the data page
- If only one parent is accompanying the child, it is a necessity to present a marriage certificate
- Original plus photocopy of proof of filiation or guardianship
- School ID (when applicable)
- Valid government-issued ID or passport of one parent plus a photocopy

In the meantime, the agency has also updated its list of valid identification cards last August 2019. These include the following:
- Postal ID
- GSIS ID
- SSS ID
- UMID
- Driver’s License
- Postal ID
- PRC ID
- Student Permit (Card Format)
- OWWA or iDOLE card
- PRC ID
- Voter’s certificate
- Voter’s ID
- Valid ePassport
- PNP Firearms License
- Senior Citizen ID
- Residence card for applicants overseas
- School ID
