Buddha’s Surf Resort Review
Siargao Island is included on my list of favorite Philippine Tourist Destinations, but I rarely go there since it takes forever to reach. I have to express my thanks to Cebu Pacific for providing the fastest transportation option to Siargao; now I have another reason to go there more often.
Buddha’s Surf Resort Villas
Decades ago, we used to stay in a Dorm Type Nipa Hut accommodation near Cloud Nine Surf Spot. Hotels back then were very limited, but now there are plenty of hotels and resorts that offers basic to luxurious amenities. During our recent visit in Siargao, Gay, Ron, Lai and I decided to stay at Buddha’s Surf Resort.
Our Bags beside the Surfing Buddha
After almost an hour of van transfer from the airport, we finally reached the resort. We were welcomed by the hotel staff with a smile, and received Buko Juice as a welcome drink. It was raining pretty hard, so instead of going to our respective rooms, we hung around the restaurant area and enjoyed some coffee with the Ensaymada given to me by Marco Polo Plaza Cebu.

Surfers as well as people who just love a beautiful, chill places to stay flock to Buddha’s Surf Resort in Barangay Catangnan. It truly exemplifies everything about Siargao Island. The deck is the perfect spot to hang out and enjoy a delicious meal, and if you’re a surfer, you’re just a few minutes away from Cloud 9.

Let’s Talk About Food
With a fun and inventive menu, Buddha’s Surf Resort serves up just about anything you’d want, when you want it. I’m a big fan of a nice spicy curry, so I tried that first during our first night at the resort. It was deliciously good with fresh ingredients and just enough spice. My other delicious meal there was a fruit platter, a very good alternative for people who are looking to cut down on their carb intake.
Big Buddha’s Breakfast
I’m big on breakfast, as my regular readers know, and the Surfer’s Breakfast is a definite win for me. On my second and third days, I tried their Big Buddha Breakfast, and man I gotta tell ya: it’s really huge and filling. Variety on the menu is certainly a draw, making it easy to ‘eat in’ often. Accordingly, the service was also pretty relaxed. To put it another way, if you’re at Buddha’s, expect to just hang out for a while. Nothing is going to happen quickly here. With a pretty relaxed crowd, it’s a great opportunity to meet other guests.
Party and Events Deck
Our room had one matrimonial bed and two king size beds – perfect for a group who wants to spend less by sharing expenses on room accommodation. The room was also airconditioned with a flat screen TV and a huge bathroom with a hot and cold shower.
This is not luxury accommodation, so anyone expecting splendor is going to be disappointed. That having been said, I had absolutely no complaints. Our room was comfortable and spacious, the bed was perfect, and things were neat and clean. Plus, the view of the garden outside made it all feel like spending time at a particularly nice home.

Events and Extras
The owners at Buddha’s Surf Resort are tireless when it comes to ensuring customer satisfaction. If you need any information at all, just ask Ashley via email or personally if you see him there (or really any member of the staff).

To top it off, they hold events on some evenings, such as acoustic night – you get the feeling that it’s a community of travelers who are there for a good time, to relax and enjoy what the beautiful island has to offer.
Buddha’s Surf Resort (check rates) also offers tours and surfing lessons, but if you want other activities like kayaking, island hopping or a habal-habal tour, just ask any of their friendly staff and they will assist you promptly. If you prefer to stay in the resort and just laze around, they have a mini library, a foosball table, a grass volleyball court and two hammocks for you to enjoy.
If you go to Siargao, don’t hesitate to book at Buddha’s Surf Resort. It’s comfortable, feels a bit like home, and has all the amenities you’ll need – not to mention proximity to beautiful, white sandy beaches and the Cloud 9 surfing area.

Going Back to Siargao
I guess our 4 day 3 night stay was really not enough – everyone agreed that Siargao is really special. The atmosphere on the island is relaxed, of course, and it feels like one big small town. People are friendly and welcoming, and the internationally known surf spot ‘Cloud 9’ brings in a fair amount of surf tourism.
