In Boracay Island, it is common that visitors from other countries stay for a few months to a year. Many of these visitors are families who want to experience life in a tropical paradise with their young children imbibing unique skills derived from island life in the Philippines.

While the sand, the sea, the active children and the coconut trees along the beaches in Boracay provide endless sources for learning, being in a secured and nurturing place to learn and have fun with other children is something to look forward to, especially when kids could be admitted in a school throughout their temporary stay on the island.

Surely, there is one such place for kids. It’s called The Little Islander Montessori Center.

Tucked behind the quaint cove of Diniwid Beach is this thriving Montessori center where children from toddlers to kindergarten can enjoy learning and bond with new friends.

The Little Islander Montessori Center is indeed a Montessori pre-school that follows the Philippine school-year schedule of June until March. Since, TLIMC adheres to the dynamic ebb of the island, the faculty accepts vacationing children into the program or in their Day-Care service, depending on the needs of the parents and children.

Following the philosophy of Montessori founder, Maria Montessori, TLIMC provides young children independent learning through coordinated play, circle and movement songs, activities using tactile learning materials and outdoor exposure.

The ages in the two levels offered by TLIMC are mixed. The Explorer Class is from 1 year and 18 months to 2 years and 18 months, while the Voyager is from 3 to 6 years old.

This mixed-age system is a Montessori style, catered to encourage psychological, physical and emotional growth, such as patience, sense of responsibility, compassion, tact in socialization and care by interaction among younger or older children.

On a normal day, children stay indoors and do activities like drawing, following sequences and patterns, and creating necklaces and bracelets with beads.

Whereas a few times per week, the teachers take the children to the beach to play, search for things they can create with, and to clear the beach off rubbish lying on the sand.

Sometimes the teachers take the children go to other interesting points on the island, such as the Fire Station, the marine gallery, and more.

Thus, at TLIMC being in school is part of the vacation in Boracay where the opportunity for children to learn with other kids, and for parents to have their own beach time come into play.
