Montreal, the Funniest City in the World

The Funniest City in the World

Once a year, the biggest names in comedy come together on one island to tell jokes… Just For Laughs.

This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Just For Laughs festival held in Montreal, Canada. You should’ve been there, it was laugh out loud hilarious. I’m talking instantly becoming friends with the stranger sitting next to you due to simultaneous hysteria, funny. Every summer, laughter brings the world together in this city I call home. Toronto’s French cousin from the North, Montreal is Canada’s leading host of world renowned events with Just For Laughs being the pièce de résistance of its summer menu. This collection of star-studded comedy shows performed July 12th to July 31st renewed Montreal’s title of Funniest City in the World.

There are many ways to join in on the joke. Just For Laughs provides open to the public events and shows held in Montreal’s Quartier Des Spectacles. With family friendly accommodations and activities provided in both in English and French, there are really no limits to laughter.

If you wish to have the professionals laugh your socks off, it’s best to attend the many shows held in theaters/clubs across downtown Montreal. One for example, The Nasty Show, is a JFL fan favorite bringing only the most vulgar and politically incorrect comedy sets to light. Held at Le Métropolis, a classic comedy experience awaits you as you sit in low light, drink in hand, praying not to get picked on by Jimmy Carr. But trust me, you don’t want to be the subject of the Nasty Show. Be prepared to be offended.

Gala’s held at Place Des Arts performing arts center are televised and you can be part of the audience. This year’s hosts include David Spade, Howie Mandel, Joel McHale and Sugar Sammy. The Lilly Singh (aka IISuperwomanII) Gala brought digital media to center stage with comedians Jermaine Fowler and Vlad Caamano stealing the show in my opinion.
