A Guide to Italian Food (Not Pizza or Gelato)
Table of Contents
Yup, you have read the title right. The first thing we think about when we here the term Italian food, is think about pizza and gelato. Of course they are good, and they are everywhere around the world. But, surprisingly there are many other Italian cuisines we don’t really know about.
Here are at least a top five must try Italian food that does not consist of pizza or gelato!
1. Roman Meals
This Italian cuisine goes with another name called “Turista Menu”. It is actually a five or four course meal, depending at the restaurant that it is being served.
For starters it comes with an antipasto, primo, secondo and a dolce. Which is, an appetizer, your preferred pasta, a meat dish and a dessert to finish with. Oh, and not forgetting a drink of your choice. Well, this meal does look like it is fit for a king, however, how Italian can you be without challenging yourself to eat a heartfelt meal like this!
2. Pasta Carbonara
Of course it is an Italian food stuff that we can get anywhere, however, what we see outside Italy is most probably not of the same par. The real pasta carbonara consists of a mix of rigatoni or spaghetti noodles with eggs, bacon, Romano cheese and not forgetting white wine.
The combination of all this and the taste of it will make you look at pasta differently!
3. Italian Coffee
Over the years, coffee has taken too many turns and basically the climax is interesting. There is no harm in trying the ways the Italian make their coffee. One thing about their coffee is, they take pride in it.
For coffees, the must tries would definitely be espresso, cappuccino or just an Americana. However, the only difference is, the Italian side of it! Sit back and relax and you will notice how rich and aroma filled Italian Coffee is!
4. Holy Ravioli
I like that phrase and that is also the same expression people can make when they have managed to taste the different kinds of ravioli, Italian cuisines have to offer. This is one of the favorites especially for vegetarians.
These little filled dumplings sealed with two layers of thin pasta has a variety of fillings. For the vegetarians they can choose a more cheesy and veggie based. And for meat lovers, well, I don’t have to say more, you have options of what meat filling you desire.
Ravioli goes well with pasta sauce or even soup. Although they look cute and puffy, they are indeed very filling, so for starters, I would like to advise you to take two or three at a time.
Because gelato is a possible dessert and I decided not to talk about it, I give you Tiramisu!
Tiramisu is very famous Italian food that should not be underrated. The ingredients are of course normal cake backing foodstuff, like coffee, flour, eggs, sugar, cocoa and mascarpone cheese. And yes we do get it everywhere all over the world, but I would still insist you get it from a real Italian place, because there is more authenticity in its making than at a regular Joe’s place!
Yes, these are the regular yet most popular Italian cuisine that one can get almost everywhere. However, it is always better if you could choose an Italian restaurant that is run by Italians and dine there. And I can guarantee that you will not regret the time and money you have invested in the foods that are being served to you.
After all, have a nice Italian themed meal, minus the pizza and gelato!
