Other than it being the first long weekend of the year, it is also holds significance for the large number of Christians in the Philippines because it marks the very first Papal visit of Pope Francis – a trip 20 years in the making.
The last Papal visit was in 1995, when Pope John Paul II visited the Philippines to celebrate the World Youth Day. That time, an estimated five million people showed up to catch a glimpse of 10th the Holy Father. Now, 20 years after, many expect more than six million people to show up during Pope Francis’ four-day visit.

Whether you’re driving to attend the papal activities, or going out of town for a quick trip, expect traffic to be more than the usual over the long weekend. Ford has listed down six simple and practical tips to help you save fuel during the holiday this weekend:
1. Check tire pressure regularly
Always maintain the recommended tire pressure. Under-inflated tires cause resistance which makes your engine work harder. Tires can lose up to 50% of pressure without looking very different from a properly inflated tire.
2. Lighten your vehicle load
Remove unnecessary weight from your vehicle. The more weight you carry, the harder the engine has to work, the more fuel it uses.
3. Keep your car in good condition
Get your car periodically serviced at your authorized service center. Component parts wear out over time, making your car less efficient. Get the car serviced at recommended service intervals.
4. Drive smoothly in the city
Avoid sudden acceleration and deceleration. If you are idle for a longer time, switch off the engine.
5. Keep AC in recirculation mode
Use air-conditioning sparingly. Your car’s air-conditioning system runs off the engine and the extra energy it requires uses up more fuel.
6. Avoid over-revving the engine
Do not rev up your engine during the initial kilometers. Running-in the engine smoothly during the initial 5,000 kms ensures better performance and economy for the life of the vehicle.
