Table of Contents
The Burnham Park in Baguio City is a lasting favorite by people of all ages. Since the park was created a century ago by American Architect, Daniel H. Burnham, it has witnessed the childhood of everyone who has visited since then.
While many changes have been made, Burnham Park now has more fun things to do for active kids. Here are 6 that top the list.
1. Smelling the galore of roses and orchids
It is simply wonderful to be in a landscape flourishing with roses and orchids; of many kinds, colors and fragrances.
At Burnham Park, full-blown roses and orchids are blossoming everywhere, providing children with a surrounding to awaken their senses and to commune with two of Mother Nature’s most romantic flora.
2. Running around vast garden spaces
Children love to run. Their spirit surge with desire in filling the vast spaces around them with their happy feet.
Inasmuch as they love it, they also need it for their own development.
The good thing about Burnham Park is the variety of running grounds around. There is grass, concrete, cobblestones and staircases, allowing them to understand and learn the right way of running on different textures with less injury as possible.
3. Riding on the bicycles
Be it a mountain bike, bicycle with a side carriage, double bicycle, solo bicycle, bicycle with supporting wheels…whatever kind you need, name it, and they are ready for you and your child at Burnham Park.
Just remember to ride the bicycle with alertness, grace and caution to maintain a smooth ride for you, your child and everyone.
4. Riding on the boat on the lagoon
It is a wonderful experience for kids to be able to ride on the boat and feel the relaxing glide on the water, and it is even more fun when they are the ones maneuvering the oars.
While the environment is safe and relaxed, paddling the boat for kids also allow them to tune in to their motor skills and exercise their eye and hand coordination.
It will also help to “Row, Row, Row, Your Boat” with your kids so their confidence in rowing builds up.
5. Picnicking on the garden
Kids love to eat on the grass with fresh air, a verdant atmosphere and many kids around.
In Burnham Park, there is plenty of garden space with flourishing trees to set up your picnic meal on. The abounding nature simply gives them a hearty appetite, a tranquil mindset, and a perfect setting for bonding.
Of course, it is granted that after the meal, the kids would want to exercise their body and play freely on the garden. That way, you get to relax on the mat, while keeping an eye on them.
6. Playing in the playground
With so many different playground sets at the park, the kids just go wild with excitement in trying every activity they see.
They get to slide on spirals, climb on nets, ride on swings and see-saws, go on balance beams, walk on bridges, and many more. They also have the chance to play with other kids from different ages.
Alas, Burnham Park is truly a park where your kids can have fun like in the old days; basic, free and natural fun, devoid of gadgets and excessive expenditures that rise up today.
Let us hope that the park remains intact and conserved for now and for the coming generations.
