For those who love Thai food, here is a foodie event in Cebu that you won’t want to miss. Right now Radisson Blu Cebu is running an event that is called “Amazing Taste of Thailand”. The festival will continue until October 9, 2011 and so far has been an awesome culinary experience for all of the attendees and participants. Radisson Blu Cebu’s famous Feria Restaurant is sponsoring the event which began September 30th.

Last weekend, I was invited to attend the Thai Food Festival in Cebu along with Nina, Eric and Noemi – fellow bloggers from Manila. The grand launch of “Amazing Taste of Thailand” was hosted by the hotels Assistant Director for Marketing Communications – Mina Gervacio and officially launched by General Manager Lyle Lewis and representatives from Tourism Autority of Thailand. I enjoyed the huge selection of Thai Cuisine made by Thai Master Chefs and the hotels Executive Chef – Marco Amarone which was served in a massive dinner buffet while watching the cultural performance from a group of cultural dancers from Thailand.

The successful launch was made possible in partnership between the Royal Embassy of Thailand, Philippine Airlines and Radison Blu Cebu. To make it all happen, they flew in the guest master chefs from the Carlson Group’s sister hotels in Thailand and let the amazing tastes of Thailand loose in the Cebu. The event was attended by local and national media, food bloggers and some of the Who’s Who in Cebu. That wasn’t the end though, plenty of luminaries have been seen since the opening night too.

Radisson Blu Cebu’s Executive Chef, Marco Amarone and Thai Guest Chefs Phimmuk Chutep, Khun Somboon Temtananaurak and Chaitong Supat have teamed up to bring the amazing gastronomic flavors of Thailand to Cebu. From the salty to the sweet to the tangy to the spicy, you can gorge yourself on Pad Thai and more that will blow your tastebuds out of the water. The soups, curries, fish, chicken, noodle and dessert items on the menu are truly mouth watering.

From green to red to yellow, the curry runs the gamut of the rainbow colors and is served with fish, chicken, pork, and more. Don’t worry there are plenty of vegetarian options too but you can’t really enjoy Evil Prince without beef or pork – at least in my opinion.

Just a few examples should suffice to make your mouth water. Pomelo and papaya salads, stir fry chili cashew chicken, hot and sour tamarind curry, green chicken eggplant curry and of course the sweet tapioca dumplings in coconut milk that finish off an amazing array of flavors.

Thai Cuisine has elements in common with other Asian food when it comes to spices used but I think Thai food is more aromatic and its less fatty compare to other Asian recipes. Thailand is a vast country and filled with more cultures and recipes than most people can imagine.

The diversity of tribes, ingredients, and tastes is what makes Thai cuisine so special. Like the Philippines, the cuisine varies from region to region so it is great to have master chefs from different regions to share the variations on Thai food themes with festival goers.
