Get Ready and prepare your Cameras, We’re going to get our balloon festival! If you are like me who likes hot air balloons and balloon festivals, the news is good for us. The Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHBF) was cancelled (we were the first to announce this), but the Department on Tourism has just announced that a new festival will happen in 2014 called The Philippine Friendship Balloon Festival.

The dates have been set for April 10th to 13th, 2014 and it will be held in Clark Pampanga. If you’re one of the many people who were upset about the cancellation of the PIHBF and called the Philippine Department on Tourism to clamor and demand an event, Thank You! Thanks to the activity of many people, we’re going to get our hot air balloon fiesta!

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) is now set to take charge in organizing the Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta annually held in Clark, Pampanga. DOT will work hand in hand with Clark Development Corporation, Clark International Airport Corporation and PAF Air Division (600th Air Base Wing) in organizing this annual ballooning event.

The DOT officials said that they will seek support from LGUs to contribute and bring cultural performers and street dancing contingents for a street dancing festival which they will call The Festival of Stars. San Miguel Corporation will also bring local and national bands to perform during the hot air balloon festival.

Included in the schedule of activities will be a nightly fireworks display and a cook-off competition courtesy of hotels and restaurants in the province of Pampanga.

The previously held Fiesta which was first initiated by the Philippine Department of Tourism in 1994 became a popular yearly event that brought balloon enthusiasts from around the country and even around the world. Balloon festivals are a truly unique experience, both for anyone who enjoys watching the balloons being filled in the early morning light and for those people who will go up in the balloons and share the air with hundreds of other brightly colored hot air balloons. It’s a truly magical experience and if you’re thinking of coming, start planning now.

I also hope that everyone invites a new friend to come and witness the festival next year. If the turnout is truly spectacular, it will help ensure that we get more of the same in the future. You’ve got just under four months to start getting people excited about this unique and fun event, so start the process. I recommend giving tickets or invitations to friends as gifts, showing them videos of balloon festivals, and just making your own plans now so that people can jump on the band wagon.

The event will be offered free admission to the general audience, excluding parking fee, which will be pegged at P50 for cars and P100 for buses.

Get excited for next year’s Philippine Friendship Balloon Festival 2014! See you there!
