Upon arrival in Kota Bahru, we immediately searched for a place to stay in the city center. By just walking around the clock tower, we found one of the most affordable hotel in Kota Bahru, The Harmoni Hotel.
Murtabak in Kota Bahru
After leaving our things in the hotel room, we went outside to look for something to eat and we were so thankful to find a restaurant right beside our hotel. While browsing an unfamiliar list of food in Nilam Restoran, we saw a guy busy making Murtabak – a popular food in Kelantan.
Cooking Murtabak
Murtabak is a stuffed pancake or pan-fried bread which is commonly found in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Brunei.

Depending on the location, the type and ingredients can significantly vary. Here in Kelantan, the bread is filled with curry flavored beef and some spices.
My Murtabak fix will not be complete without ordering Teh Ice or Teh Tarik.. I guess I found my new comfort food in Kota Bahru and now my problem is where to find one in Manila…
