Miss Universe 2016 Opens This Saturday with a Welcome Party to Remember

The most anticipated pageant in the world, the 65th Miss Universe 2016 spectacle, is bound to start with a welcoming party this coming Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Conrad Hotel Manila.

The Department of Tourism secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo recently announced that reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach will join at the opening salvo of ancillary events of the pageant which will happen at the Mall of Asia Arena on January 30, 2017.

Teo also said that Pia Wurtzbach is extremely excited that the pageant will be held in the Philippines during her reign for the world to see.

Among those who will attend the kick-off party on Saturday include Miss Australia, Miss China, Miss Indonesia, Miss Japan, Miss Korea, Miss New Zealand, Miss Malaysia, Miss Myanmar, Miss Thailand, and Miss USA. The ladies are expected to arrive in Manila on Friday, December 9, 2016 and will stay for the entire week.

Teo also said that President Rodrigo Duterte will meet with the Miss Universe hopefuls, including our very own candidate, Bb. Pilipinas Maxine Medina, at Malacañang Palace though the date is not yet final.

During the week, the candidates will stop in the province of Cebu, particularly in Oslob to experience close-encounter swimming with the Butanding or Whale Sharks. They will also get a taste of the city’s famous Lechon or roasted pig.

The swimwear presentation will also be held in Cebu. The venue is at JPark Island Resort & Waterpark, a popular destination for those who want to dive, snorkel, and experience other water activities.

Furthermore, Undersecretary Kat De Castro mentioned that the accreditation of a huge number of media, including local and international, will be administered by the International Press Center (IPC) under the Presidential Communication Operations (PCOO).

De Castro also said that the vast number of international media is good for local and national tourism. According to her, millions of people from around the world watch the telecast live. Even now, DOT has been flooded with inquiries about where to get the tickets for admission.
