The museums.

The city is known for its three main art museums, the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofia Museum, and the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum.
These three museums form the Golden Triangle of Museums that is located in the city center. A short walk away visitors will find the Naval Museum and the city’s Botanical Gardens.
The parks.

A short distance away from the city center and the main art museums visitors will find the Retiro Park. This park used to be a set of royal gardens. The park now has many paths that are lined with flowers and sculptures. In the center of the park, there is a pond where visitors will be able to rent boats and a larger boat offers a guided tour around the pond.
Another main park is the Madrid Rio park, located on the banks of the Manzanares river. This park has several kilometers of bike paths and there is a bike rental service.
The Casa de Campo is a hunting estate that is now a large park. There are several bicycle paths, picnic areas, and a lake. The city’s Parque de Atracciones theme park is located in this park. The theme park has many roller coasters and water attractions. Next to the park visitors will find the zoo which has an aquarium.
The tapas.

These local appetizers can be found at most of the city’s bars. There are several types of tapas, including aceitunas olives, croquetas fried dough croquettes, huevos rotos eggs with fries, and tostas fresh bread drizzled in olive oil covered by slices of fish and asparagus.
There are many barrios where guests will be able to enjoy authentic tapas. The Barrio de las Letras is located a short walk away from the city center. This area has many bars, clubs, and tapas bars and restaurants. The area’s main square is the Plaza de Santa Ana, where visitors will be able to enjoy a drink. A short distance away on foot is the district of La Latina, which offers many tapas bars. Many of these bars serve tapas typical of one of the country’s regions, including authentic Basque pintxos.
The city center.

The city center is known for its many squares and historical buildings. The city’s centric Plaza de Sol is known for the statue of the bear and the madroño tree, the city’s symbol. The Town Hall is located on this square, which is decorated with many fountains and statues. The nearby Plaza Mayor is a cobblestone plaza with many terraces and markets. The nearby streets were built during the reign of the Hapsburgs and lead to the Royal Palace.
The Royal Palace and the Sabatini Gardens are another of the city’s landmarks. Fifty of the more than two thousand rooms of the palace are available for tours, and visitors will be able to explore the ancient throne room and the royal apartments filled with art masterpieces and antique furniture.
