I’m a big fan of flying. This is why, when I got an invite to visit a flying school in Binalonan, Pangasinan, I jumped at the chance and confirmed my attendance. The fact that I’ve never been to Binalonan, Pangasinan (not to be confused with Binangonan, Rizal) is just an added incentive.

When you go for a visit, one of the things you must do there is visit the banana chips, cane vinegar, and chichacorn factories. Of course, you will also be remiss if you don’t try their famous binalonan longganisa. It’s one of the best longganisas in the country!

The University Town
Inside the Classroom
Binalonan is North Luzon’s University Town due to the reputation of the University of Eastern Pangasinan (UEP). It is the first educational institution within the municipality. Binalonan is also well loved by students because of its accessibility, genteel environment, and nearly zero crime rate. It’s a perfect place for young people who wish to learn.

UEP opened in 2007. Since then, the university features medical and computer laboratories and a full library. They also have facilities for HRM students to learn their craft well. There are other learning centers around town including the World Citi Colleges (WCC) Aeronautical and Technological College—the first flying school in North Luzon.

Adding to why Binalonan is the University Town, educational institutions like the private school St. Michael de Archangel College is also there. There is also the Manantan Technical School for technical and vocational courses. The Holy Child Academy parochial school is also located here. The Juan G. Macaraeg National High School is one of the two Performing Arts schools in the region.

Future plans include working with Manila-based universities to bring graduate studies to Binalonan. College graduates from the northern regions like Baguio, La Union, and Pangasinan no longer have to move to Manila to further their education.

The WCC Aeronautical and Technological College is one of the best in Asia. Founded by Captain Ramon Guico III, the college has become an institution where local and foreign students come to learn about aviation since 2005. It is now one of the go-to educational institutions for anyone hoping for a truly hands-on education in aviation.

Thanks to WCC, Binalonan is now becoming a popular town in Northern Luzon. Binalonan’s Airfield is complete and well-equipped for aviation training and flight servicing. WCC is the only flying school that has its own airfield, including an 850m runway that can accommodate general aviation as well as a mid-sized commercial aircraft.

Graduates of the pilot academy become leaders of their industry with talents and skills to fly commercial flights. WCC features world-class facilities that really hone each student’s aviation prowess. There are 35 trainer aircrafts, 3 flight simulators (including an Airbus 320 full flight simulator).
Getting ready to fly
In addition to hands-on education, WCC students have ground classes in Binalonan or in Pasay City. They also learn aircraft maintenance as well as workshops and short courses to round out their flight education. These short courses include a Jet Orientation Program that gives them an opportunity to be employed as pilots for prestigious airlines. Students are also offered Multi-Crew Cooperation courses.

“Everyone can fly: plane and simple!” this is WCC’s commitment when it comes to encouraging and training young people to pursue their passion in aviation. To become a pilot is not just a pipe dream, especially as we have a truly world-class aviation school right here in Luzon. It’s also not impossible that Filipinos will one day man the skies and pilot commercial flights for international and renowned airlines. It all starts at WCC.
Flying over Dagupan Pangasinan
During our recent visit, we were lucky to meet some of their licensed Pilots / instructors and joined them in one of their test flights. Flying over the towns of Binalonan, Dagupan City, Alaminos City, Manaoag and other nearby towns was truly an amazing experience.
Flying with Captain Julius Bustamante
You, too, can enjoy the flying experience yourself. WCC Aeronautical and Technological College can provide you training with their well-trained pilots. I enjoyed flying with their Pilots twice using two of their many well-maintained aircrafts. It was an awesome experience!
