Table of Contents
Being able to climb mountains is always a huge feat whether you are still a beginner or already an experienced one. Each mountain that you climb is a testament of how you push yourself to your limits, in order to reach your goals.
However, no matter how seemingly intimidating mountains can be, there are still quite a handful of easy climbs around and what’s even better is that they are located quite close to Metro Manila, too.
Are you ready? Well, here are some of the best places to go on a day hike in Luzon:
Pico de Loro
Literally, Parrot’s Beak, Pico de Loro is actually used to describe the monolith at the peak which, by the way, is already closed to everyone (please do not attempt to climb as you may be risking your life doing so).
Located in Cavite, this hike takes about 3 to 4 hours to get to the top and includes steep, forested trails. You are, however, rewarded with among the best views of Cavite at the top.
Yet another popular dayhike option is this mountain in Batangas. Newbies might find Mt. Batulao slightly challenging with slippery trails that come with loose rocks but all the hardships will soon be gone once you find yourself viewing the grasslands of Nasugbu down below. And, of course, there’s the cool breeze to make you forget how tired you are!
Don’t let the Sierra Madre mountains intimidate you because there is actually one fairly easy hike there: Mt. Balagbag. The trail may be a rocky there but it ascends gradually making it friendly for newbies. However, its open trail means that hikers are constantly exposed to the unforgiving sun so a hike during the late afternoon or at night are most recommended.
Just 40 minutes to an hour is all it takes to hike up this beginner-friendly mountain in Bulacan. If that is not enough adventure for you, you can even go ahead and do other activities including spelunking or even dipping and cooling yourself off in the Madlum River.
Want to see Taal Lake from yet another beautiful angle? Well, Mt. Maculot gives you a spectacular 360-degree view from the rockies. There might be a need to scramble among the rocks but other than that, it doesn’t pose a problem. And it only takes around 2 to 3 hours to hike up this mountain in Batangas.
Did any of these day hike destinations appeal to you? If you plan on coming to Cebu, don’t forget to visit any of these beginner-friendly mountains, too!
