How Smart Became Asia’s Top Digital Services Provider
Every Filipino is familiar with the now-household name Smart. Now the company stands to garner international recognition after being named Digital Service Provider of the Year, one of the most prestigious awards at the Asia Communication Awards or ACA.
Considering how Smart was head-to-head with other service companies around all of Asia, this feat is one Filipinos can be proud of.
Hosted by London-based Total Telecom, this annual award ceremony is held in Singapore with the goal of acknowledging mobile carriers, multimedia providers, and communication providers.
Not only did the company receive recognition for being the best service provider, but it also bagged the Best Brand Campaign award for its Welcome Change campaign. In case you forgot, this campaign introduced Smart and PLDT’s switch to being digital-first companies, where every Filipino can use mobile technology to create a better world.
If you’re not yet impressed, know that even making it to the shortlist of awardees is a feat in itself. Smart definitely shows how a genuine desire to serve and spark positive change can shine amid all the barriers for telecommunications companies to succeed.
Head of the ACA’s panel of judges, Janet Watkin claimed that, not only making it to the shortlist was an achievement on its own, but winning “requires that something extra special [and] is a cut above the rest.”
For Smart to have made it and won means it possessed exactly that, and it’s a proud showcase of Filipino talent and skill.
When asked what he thought about receiving the award, CEO of Smart and PLDT Manny V. Pangilinan says they are “honored to receive these awards from a prestigious institution that understands the rapid changes sweeping through the [telecommunications] industry.” He also adds that the award will serve as their inspiration to deliver even better results to improve the country’s ongoing digital transformation.
Today, Smart is working on providing the country with more and better LTE services, offering products for its customers to discover how digital can enhance their lives.
With previous wins at the ACA, such as Operator of the Year in both 2011 and 2012, and now its Digital Service Provider of the Year this year, we can only see if Smart will continue its streak while providing better services to the Filipino people.
