#WalangPasok: Class cancellations on September 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21, 2018 (Monday-Friday)

Baguio City, Philippines – As per Administrative Order (AO) No. 128 signed and issued on September 6, Classes in Baguio City are suspended from September 17 to 21, 2018. The Classes from preschool to senior high school in Baguio City are suspended for the finals of the 2018 Batang Pinoy.

The said the class cancellation will ensure the maximum participation of the youth and the general public on the week-long sports competition. The 2018 Batang Pinoy national championship is jointly hosted by Baguio City and the municipality of La Trinidad, Benguet.

Baguio delegation is composed of 700 athletes who will participate in 28 sports events. Apart from the local delegation, there will be thousands of delegates from various areas of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan said that the City of Baguio has consulted with the Department of Education prior to the issuance of the Administrative Order.

According to the City Mayor, the Department of Education will make the necessary adjustments to the school calendar to allow the school children to cope with the suspension of classes.

This will be the first time for Baguio City and La Trinidad Benguet to host this sporting event. The city is expecting about 7,000 participating athletes and sports officials from different parts of the archipelago.

Batang Pinoy is an annual multi-sports meet for school children and out-of-school youth aged 15 and below.

As hosts, Baguio city and the town of La Trinidad in Benguet will provide the playing venues, set billeting facilities for athletes and coaches, augment local transportation, medical personnel, and responders, as well as ensure the security of the participants.

A total of 28 events will be played during the Batang Pinoy national finals. The City of Pines will host 22 events, and the rest will be done in La Trinidad town in Benguet, known as the country’s Strawberry Capital.
