PICC Celebrates 40 Year-Anniversary
Dubbed the very first international convention center in Asia, the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) celebrated its 40 years of existence last Sept. 5 at its Reception Hall.
After it was formally inaugurated in Sept. 5, 1976, the PICC has undoubtedly became among the most notable venues for events not only in the Philippines but also in Southeast Asia.
It is deemed as a shining gem for arts, culture, entertainment and history as it hosted quite a few significant events in the country’s history.
Important Events Held
Through the years, PICC has become a much loved venue in hosting an array of grandest events, which include:
- 1976 IMF – World Bank Meeting

It is also worth mentioning that Saint John Paul II and Saint Teresa of Calcutta also once visited PICC.
As part of the celebration, PICC also unveiled an exhibit showing off photos taken from different past events.
The exhibit also boasts Saint Teresa of Calcutta’s handwritten message to PICC that served as its highlight.
Performances During The Celebration
A program was held over the dinner that featured a slew of performances from top-caliber artists, including Christian Bautista as well as Ballet Manila. Denise Laurel served as the host to the said event.
Meantime, Amando M. Tetangco, Jr., Chairman of the PICC Board and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor talked about PICC’s legacy and its future plans during this particular event.
Service Recognition Awards
In an effort to recognize the dedication, selfless service, hard work and loyalty of PICC employees who have been with the organization for more than 20 years, the Center handed out Service Recognition awards to these staff members. On top of that, it also recognized the support of its loyal partners and top clients.
PICC Gem Awardee
It is also worth mentioning that singer-actress Lea Salonga has been a star of the event, as she was given the precious PICC Gem Award. She made history as the first person to receive such award.
