The Biodiversity Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-BMB) have decided to partner with the Deutsche Gesellschaftfur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to put the “Selfie for Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism 2017” photo on display. The move is a way of honoring the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDBD) which occurs on May 22. The two organizations will leave the photo on display for the duration of a contest taking place from May 3 to May 15.
The United Nations will direct the international IDBD as an aspect of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CDB) of 1993. The international event is the organization’s way of increasing global awareness pertaining to biodiversity and the impact that it has on the ecosystem. By increasing awareness, the goal is to teach everyone why they should be involved in the protection of biodiversity.
The contest, which is a photo contest, centers on the theme of “Biodiversity and Sustainable Tourism.” Scenes included in the contest will involve efforts applied toward sustaining biodiversity and the connection it has to the sustainability of the tourist sector. Photos can include action shots that accurately depict the vigilance of tourist group as they work to protect biodiversity, water, wildlife, forest, and eco tours.
