Smart launches free YouTube streaming for a few data packages
Smart Communications now offers free access to YouTube for one hour on a daily basis. This was after the Filipino telecommunications company finalized an agreement with tech giant Google to allow such access.
Smart-Google partnership: Youtube for FREE
Smart Communications and Google officially announced the partnership of the two companies in a media event in Pasay City.
Sun, Smart and TNT prepaid customers will be given the daily hour-long access to the video streaming platform until July 15. Only those who have registered to select cellular packages will be able to avail of the YouTube access.
The load packages that are eligible are Panalo Data 30, GigaSurf99, GigaSurf50, AllOutSurf99, Super Combo 20, Big Time Data 70, Panalo Combo 30 and AllOutSurf30.
Smart and PLDT SVP for Consumer Business Market Development Oscar Reyes Jr. said that the free access program will be beneficial to the company’s subscribers. He also expressed hope that the program will mark the start of other exciting and innovative ideas that will be part of Filipino’s digital lifestyle.
The free YouTube access program (link) is only available for prepaid subscribers for now. However, Smart is working hard to extend the service to postpaid users as well.
Smart takes video streaming seriously
The past few years has seen Smart invest heavily on LTE and 3G infrastructure. Because of this, the mobile data speed of smartphone users in the Smart network is faster than ever before no matter where you are in the country.
Part of the reason why users are experiencing better video and streaming experience is because of the deployment of LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) and Carrier Aggregation (CA) technology. This program has already been rolled out in major cities like Zamboanga, Baguio, Calamba, Cagayan De Oro, Dipolog, Ormoc, Tagbilaran and Bacolod. Smart also deployed 4CC in two cities in Metro Manila.
