Shopee’s 9.9 Sale Signals Early Start to Filipino Holiday Shopping Season

The holiday shopping season is officially gaining momentum in the Philippines, with Shopee reporting a significant surge in orders and shopper engagement during its 9.9 campaign.

One of the biggest highlights was the sharp increase in orders processed through Fulfilled by Shopee (FBS), which jumped 2.5 times compared with last year’s 9.9 campaign. The strong performance points to growing demand for faster and more reliable e-commerce fulfillment as Filipinos begin preparing for Christmas.

Beyond order volumes, the campaign also recorded notable growth across Shopee’s content ecosystem, including Shopee Video, Drama, and Live, highlighting how entertainment and creator recommendations are becoming increasingly important to the online shopping experience.

Faster Fulfillment as Holiday Shopping Accelerates

The strong growth in FBS orders comes as Shopee expands its fulfillment support for sellers during major shopping events.

Through Fulfilled by Shopee, participating sellers can store their products within Shopee’s fulfillment network across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Shopee then manages key logistics processes, including storage, packing, shipping, and returns.

For shoppers, the service can translate into faster delivery times. FBS orders typically arrive within one to two days in Metro Manila and three to five working days in the Visayas and Mindanao, compared with around seven to 10 working days for non-FBS sellers in the region.

With Christmas shopping beginning earlier each year, faster delivery can be particularly useful for shoppers purchasing gifts, travel essentials, fashion finds, electronics, and other holiday must-haves.

Creator-Led Shopping Gains Momentum

The 9.9 campaign also highlighted the growing role of creators in helping shoppers discover products.

The number of active Shopee Affiliates more than doubled year-on-year, giving consumers more opportunities to find products through creator recommendations, videos, and other forms of social commerce.

This growth reflects a broader shift in the way Filipinos shop online. Instead of simply searching for a specific product, shoppers are increasingly discovering new items through entertainment, livestreams, short-form videos, and recommendations from creators they follow.

Shopee Video, Drama, and Live See Stronger Engagement

Engagement across Shopee’s content platforms also climbed during the campaign.

Combined watch time across Shopee Video and Drama increased by 79% year-on-year, suggesting that shoppers are spending more time consuming entertainment and product-related content while browsing the platform.

Shopee Live also recorded strong activity, attracting more than 3.7 million viewers during the campaign. That represented a 73% increase compared with an average day.

The numbers underline how livestreaming and video content are becoming increasingly integrated into the shopping journey, allowing consumers to discover products while also interacting with creators and sellers in real time.

A More Content-Driven Shopping Experience

The latest 9.9 results point to an e-commerce environment where shopping, entertainment, and content creation increasingly overlap.

For consumers, creator-led content can offer a more engaging way to discover products and learn how they look or work before making a purchase. For sellers, the growing affiliate and livestream ecosystem provides additional channels for reaching potential customers.

Creators are also becoming an important part of the e-commerce landscape, with opportunities to recommend products, build audiences, and earn through affiliate activities.

According to Vincent Lee, Head of Shopee Philippines, the 9.9 performance provides an early indication of how Filipinos are beginning their holiday shopping.

The company says its focus is on helping shoppers reliably access products, supporting sellers as demand increases, and creating more opportunities for creators to connect consumers with relevant products.

Christmas Shopping Starts Earlier

The strong 9.9 performance comes at the beginning of what is traditionally one of the busiest shopping periods of the year in the Philippines.

As Christmas draws closer, online shopping activity is expected to continue building, with consumers likely to turn to major sales events for gifts, personal purchases, household items, and holiday preparations.

For Shopee, the growth in fulfillment, affiliate participation, and content engagement during 9.9 suggests that the Philippine e-commerce market is entering the holiday season with shopping habits increasingly shaped by speed, convenience, entertainment, and creator recommendations.
