The cozy bar and restaurant with a huge statue of Buddha is finally in Manila having the biggest 3 story bar located in the Philippines Business district. The first Buddha Bar was opened in Paris in 1996. The owner loves exploring Asia and he wants to introduce new concept of food and entertainment to Parisians and that’s also the reason why he named the place Buddha Bar.

Now, Buddha Bar is a famous global chain of best in class restaurant-lounges located in famous cities like Paris, Washington, Dubai, Monte Carlo, Keiv and now Manila. The restaurant has over 500 seats to accommodate guests for regular dining or special events. From the main entrance, visitors will be amazed with awesome Asian temple inspired design with huge staircases with red back lights, a giant golden Buddha, lounge tables, stylish bars, DJ Booth, VIP Rooms and roof deck.

Speaking of feasts, you will be blown away by the array of drinks and dishes that make up the signature of Buddha-Bar. Conjured only with first-class ingredients, service and gustative concepts, the lounge lets the East meet the West as it fuses Asian flavors with French influences—a cuisine labeled as Pacific Rim cooking.

Headed by Executive Chef Maria Milagros Socorro Santos, you’ll be presented with everything with the likes of the Buddha-Bar Chicken Salad, Seared Sesame Tuna with Shiitake Vinaigrette, Fillet Mignon cooked “Teppan Yaki” Style, Five-Spice Barbecued Chicken, Seared Foie Gras with Truffle Teriyaki, and a full selection of sushi plates.

Earlier, I was invited for their food tasting event where we also met the executive chef and Sylvere Le Gall – Buddha Bar Manila’s General Manager. We started of by having a goblet of their Signature Buddha Juice – a tea based drink flavored with lychee and Kiwi. The resident Manager gave us a short introduction about Buddha Bar then the executive chef explains the type of cuisine they are offering while foods are being served. We first tried their house specialty Maki Rolls named Pink Lady and Buddha Bar Rolls then they started serving pink salmon sashimi. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you probably know that I don’t eat anything raw so my Sashimi share was consumed by my seatmates and for that reason we immediately became best of friends:)

I specially like their Shrimp and Avocado Jalapeno Maki and their Crunchy Rice with prawns on top. For the main course, I have to say that their Buddha-Bar Chicken Salad is my favorite. It has enough sweetness, spices and the chicken rests on a bed of red and green cabbage mixed with fried wonton wrappers are so delicious. We also liked their Deep Fried Golden Duck Pao with Mee Bandung while their Crispy Boneless Chicken wings with spicy ginger sauce was obviously the crowds favorite and its best paired with their version of Shanghai Rice.

I was literally full and just decided to stop munching on the remaining dishes but when the desserts were served…. I just found myself eating again:(

I liked the trio of crème brulee with Coffee, chocolate and vanilla all in small portions. I was hesitant to try their Black Sesame Ice Cream but after tasting it, I find it really good. If I’m gonna choose my favorite dessert, It would be their Chocolate Sesame Bars, it looks really simple, in fact it looks like a biscocho but after tasting it, I find it really really really good. Its like a crunchy bar with a layer of chocolate that taste similar to Kit Kat…. just better.

Accentuated by Rococo style banisters, rich mahogany furniture, intricate wall mosaics, amber-colored lighting that accordingly subdues as the day progresses, and ceiling-high windows that share the setting of the sun, every corner is made a feast for the eyes.
