Borneo Reef World Pontoon in Kota Kinabalu

While in Kota Kinabalu for the Zest Air Inaugural flight, we were very lucky to experience and visit Borneo Reef World Pontoon – the largest reef pontoon in Asia. A Pontoon is  flotation device with buoyancy sufficient to float itself as well as a heavy load much like the Pambato Reef of Puerto Princesa in Palawan. However, Borneo Reef Pontoon is extraordinary because of its size and its top notch facilities like underwater observatory, glass bottom boat, salt water swimming pool and others.

Aside from being a well known fishing destination in Sabah, Kota Kinabalu is also a major commercial and industrial centre in the island. Kota Kinabalu is also famous for its beautiful five islands and the huge reefs. Borneo pontoon is the largest reef in Kota Kinabalu and also the biggest reef pontoon in South East Asia.

Borneo Reef World Pontoon offers visitors the chance to experience the beauty and the magical wonders of the marine life. It has an air conditioned glass covered pathway for those who are not ready to swim and dive. From there, you can see the fishes floating without getting into the water. Snorkeling between the coral reefs is the main activity that attracts the tourists.

Sea walking, kayaking, jet skiing, scuba diving, banana boating etc. are the other main adventurous activities that you can experience in this Pontoon reef. Simply walking in the Pontoon helps to view the stunning beauty of all the five islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.

The Borneo Reef World Pontoon is similar to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Borneo Reef is made up of high grade Aluminium which is rust proof. It is a very spacious, luxurious and stable reef platform. The second level of the reef has the sunbathing deck, carpeted walkways, freshwater showers and shaded seating area. Children’s pool and the vast, spacious dining area also make Borneo Reef a nice place to spend your day.

Borneo Reef World Pontoon is located between Gaya and the Manukan Island. Helmet diving or Sea Walking is the main attraction of this reef. It helps to view the reefs very closely. For those who don’t know swimming, there are scuba diving and ocean walker.

Parasailing in this reef helps to view the beauty of Sabah Reef from a height in a parachute. This will be guided by a sail boat in the open sea. Parasailing at the middle of the ocean will be really an enchanting experience. Banana boating is another major attraction of this Reef. Other than diving and snorkeling, it offers a lot of activities for the adventure lovers.

We had so much fun and even though our stay in Borneo Reef World Pontoon was quick, some of us were able to try sea walking and diving. Many thanks to Zest Air and Borneo Reef World Pontoon for giving us the opportunity to experience this floating waterworld.
