He is also the twin brother of Artemis and the son of Zeus. When Apollo grew up, he began searching for a place to build his temple. He initially tried to build it by a spring which apparently belonged to a nymph called Telephusa. He was then asked to make it somewhere else, like Delphi.

Although Delphi had a shrine for Themis already, the goddess of fortune-telling, Apollo found out that a dragon named Python has taken over. Apollo used a hundred arrows to kill the dragon and claimed Delphi as his temple.
