Admire the majestic Taj Mahal
Renowned for its symbol of unreserved love, the Taj Mahal is the most visited attraction in India. It was built during the reign of Sha Jahan in the 17th century as a dedication to his wife number three, Mumtaz Mahal. The emperor’s wife died in childbirth, and her grave is located in the complex.
Taj Mahal is also among the Seven Wonders of the World and is commonly referred to as the “Jewel of Muslim artistry.”

Explore the Agra Fort
Rivaling the Taj Mahal as the jewel of Agra’s city, the Agra Fort is known for its mind-blowing magnificence.
Sitting on more than 94 acres, the fort competes with “Mumtaz Mahal” in every aspect. They are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites and share a huge chunk of the city’s number of visitors.

Wander around the city of Fatehpur Sikri
The last UNESCO World Heritage Site in Agra, after the first two attractions in this list, the sandstone city of Fatehpur Sikri is a must-visit for anyone who finds themselves in Agra.
It was founded by Emperor Akbar of Mughal and displays a perfect blend of Islamic, Hindu, and Jain architectural style. The city was built using only red sandstone and 9 gates – Chor Gate, Gwalior Gate, Ajmeri Gate, Delhi Gate, Lal Gate, Agra Gate, Birbal Gate, Chandan Pal Gat, and Tehra Gate.
This sandstone city is located around 39 kilometers away from Agra.
Get spiritual at Jama Masjid
Jamal Masjid is one of the most imposing mosques in India. Constructed by Shah Jahan, the same Mughal Emperor built the Taj Mahal, but this time, he dedicated the mosque to his daughter Jahanara Begum.
Admire the splendor of Jahangiri Mahal
Visit the Jahangiri Mahal palace, built for Akbar’s wife of the same name, to experience the remarkable Islamic architecture. This palace is one of the most visited sites in the city of Agra, and it is not hard to see why.
The palace’s highlight is the massive bowl called Hauz-i-Jahangiri, which sliced from a rock and serves as a holder of scented rose water.
The palace itself has beautiful statuettes that are worth exploring.
Interact with elephants at a conservation center
For a long time, animals have been oppressed in India, leading numerous organizations to form rescue programs.
One of these programs is the Elephant Conservation and Care Center, which rescues abused elephants, about 30 kilometers from Agra city center.
The sanctuary is home to more than 20 elephants, and you can even help prepare meals and feed them.
Elephants are common in India, and honestly, you don’t have to visit a center to interact with them, but that is the only ethical way.
Watch birds in Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
Get up close with some beautiful birds in their natural setting at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, about an hour drive from Agra.
The reserve features over 230 colorful bird species, including cranes, open bill, rosy pelicans, egret, painted stork, and peacock.
This is one of the best bird sanctuaries in Agra and opens throughout the year.
Check the Old City
To experience the authenticity of Agra, you need to visit its old city. Learn about the history, culture, and architecture on a two-hour excursion around the old town.
Though it seems there is very little going on, Agra’s Old Town has some vibrant markets and beautiful temples.

After touring Agra during the day, spend your evening watching the famous Kalakriti Dance Drama at Mohabbat The Taj.
Though the venue opens as early as 10 am, the best time to enjoy the dance is from 6 pm to 815 pm when it closes.
Stroll the streets of Agra
