It’s no secret that the pandemic affected most Coron businesses, leading to some establishments’ temporary and permanent closure. On the brighter side, more SMEs are slowly recovering from the wrath of the pandemic, with local artisans and businesses bouncing back in recent months.
One of the places that survived is Real Street of Coron, Palawan. Dubbed the “High Street of Coron,” Real Street is a one-stop destination for tourists to chill, eat, drink, and party with friends. It’s very easy to find as it’s centrally located in the town of Coron. It’s close to the fire station, municipal hall, public market, and much more.
Real Street is your best choice if it’s your first time on the island and you want to know the most happening places in town. I’ve listed down some of the best places to stay, eat, and drink that I personally loved and recently discovered in Coron. Read on!
Stay at Calle Real Hotels
Treetop Suites
During my recent trip to Coron, I stayed in a Premium Family Room at Treetop Suites, one of the three hotels collectively known as Calle Real Hotels.
This three-star hotel offers an intimate and comfortable stay for its guests, having six standard rooms, each with two single beds, six Family rooms with two queen beds, and its own private balcony. They also have two Premium Family Rooms for a more upscale experience. One of the things I like the most about my stay at their stylish Premium Family Room is my own private space. It’s more spacious than other rooms and is well-equipped with a separate shower and toilet, a cozy living space, an extended work area, a mini refrigerator, an electric water kettle, and a safety deposit box. To cap off my stay, I had a relaxing dip at their lounge pool with a jacuzzi to soothe my tired body after a full day of island-hopping.

Casa Coron
Another hotel to check out is Casa Coron– a three-story, eight-room hotel in front of Coron Ecolodge. It’s an ideal hotel for families because its rooms are spacious enough for tourists in groups. Each room has a queen-sized bed and a single bed that can comfortably fit a family of three. An extra mattress may be requested for a minimal cost.
Like any other standard room, Casa Coron’s rooms have a private toilet and bath with hot and cold showers. On the ground floor, you get scenic views of Calle Real too.

Food delivery in Coron isn’t as popular as it is in Manila. Not many food delivery platforms are available on the island. Thus, Chef Eric and Nestlie Hermes, owners of Chowline, wanted to introduce this service to tourists and locals of Coron. Their restaurant Chowline is best known for pizzas and pastries, which are available online, thus becoming a hit among island foodies. Their bestselling Sisig Pizza uses slow-roasted, locally-sourced liempo to create the signature dish. As much as possible, they source their ingredients from local growers and artisans in a way to help the local economy.

Party at BamBar
For beers, finger foods, and cocktails, head to BamBar in Coron. As Real Street’s ultimate party place, BamBar is where you can chill and enjoy cocktails with pals, watch live bands until the night’s wee hours, and sample delicious finger food on the island. When in BamBatr, don’t forget to order La Morena, a whisky bourbon with cinnamon bark, providing a smoky finish.

Indulge in affordable Filipino food at Calle Burgos
Tired after a day of island-hopping? You deserve a sumptuous treat from Calle Burgos. This chain of restaurants is loved for its Filipino fare, but they also have Asian specialty food, seafood, and pasta dishes. Some of their must-tries include buffalo chicken, BBQ pork ribs, Singaporean shrimp, and seafood chop suey.

Wine and Dine at Get Real Bar & Restaurant
One of the pioneer establishments on Real Street is Get Real Bar & Restaurant, situated at the ground level of Treetop Suites. It’s known for its Filipino-Mexican food, like tacos and burritos.
While on the island, I had the opportunity to sample their bestsellers. My favorite was, no doubt, the tacos, which are made with jalapeno, nachos, cheese sauce, and homemade pico de gallo. The meat they used is minced in slightly sweet adobo sauce, garnished with lettuce, and wrapped in a fresh tortilla. We also tasted their Chicken Chipotle which was juicy and filling. Meanwhile, their Angus burger slider was a crowd favorite because of the perfect combination of Angus beef, caramelized onions, and mozzarella cheese. Lastly, we tried their Butter Garlic Lime Seared Salmon, which had the perfect zest in every bite.
As a certified foodie, I couldn’t help but try their other dishes, which were all surprisingly electable. Everything on their menu is worth ordering because they’re all appetizing, filling, and affordable. Get Real Bar & Restaurant is a must-try, from snacks to the main course to the desserts. It’s definitely the place I’d come back to.

Another restaurant owned and managed by the team behind Get Real Bar & Restaurant is their Japanese restaurant, Get Real Izakaya. After many years of not having many food options on the island, here comes a Japanese restaurant that serves authentic Japanese food. Get Real Izakaya offers signature Asian flavors to its guests. Some of their must-tries include spicy tuna roll, tempura plate, and the all-time favorite seafood ramen– with a rich and flavorful broth. Simple also their mixed yakitori, perfect for an island BBQ experience.

Enjoy locally crafted beers at The BrewHouse Coron.
Gone are the days when the only option you had for booze were commercial beers–now, Corn has its own The BrewHouse, the go-to destination for beers. Serving locally made craft beers, The BrewHouse Coron was built to cater to booze-loving locals and guests of the island. It’s also the first craft brewery and draft system in Coron town, making it a must-visit.
Aside from drinks, they also serve food. Their menu changes frequently, so you’d be surprised to get Asian or European delights every time you visit. What frequent guests rave about is their pork schnitzel and goulash.

Island Mart is a grocery store in Coron located at the corner of the famous B-Complex. It’s your one-stop shop for all items like imported snacks, beverages, spices, ingredients, and other kitchen essentials. Budget travelers love getting their foodstuff here to save money and prepare food instead. So if you prefer to hang out in your room and drink with friends, you could source everything you need from Island Mart.

Savor affordable yet filling meals
A trip to the island can be very expensive, with all the activities and accommodations to book. The good thing is you can still eat within your budget without going hungry. Here’s a tip: get your light and filling pastries from Julie’s Bakeshop in the neighborhood for snacks. Then for lunch or dinner, head to the hole-in-the-wall restaurant right in front of BamBar for affordable home-cooked meals.
Shop for locally-made cheese and sausages at Poco Deli
DIY your own charcuterie board on the island and get your essentials from Poco Deli. Owned by Joy and Sonny De Leon, Poco Deli is a small, family-run business established in 2008. It has several branches in Metro Manila too. Poco Deli sells homemade sausage, pizza, pasta, baked goods, and desserts in their neighborhood shop. These are all made with high-quality ingredients using family recipes. If you’re feeling fancy and want a simple dinner with a flair, head to Poco Deli to get your ingredients!

Sample Tagbanua Coffee at Epic Cafe
I’ve been to so many coffee shops in Coron, but for me, Epic Cafe serves the best coffee in town. Though it’s more expensive than others, the quality of their beans and the taste of their freshly brewed coffee is just worth the price. My personal favorite is Tagbanua Coffee, a specialty coffee carefully roasted in brown sugar by Tagbanua tribes in Coron. Aside from coffee, they also offer breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Coffee lovers will surely love this cafe which also supports the local community of Coron!

The best part of Calle Real is its laid-back vibe that draws guests to come and unwind in the neighborhood. With several dining establishments to choose from, one wouldn’t have difficulty finding somewhere to eat. Need coffee in the morning? Epic Cafe is the answer. Craving Japanese? Try Get Real Izakaya. Looking for sumptuous meals and drinks? Real Street has Chowline, Calle Burgos, Get Real, and Poco Deli. Whatever flavor you’re craving, there’s a spot in these restaurants for you.
Aside from these dining spots, Real Street has nearby ATMs, drugstores, tour operators, dive shops, Standup paddleboard Rentals, souvenir stores, and spas–all for everyone’s convenience.
More than the beaches of Coron, Real Street can be considered a landmark in the town. It’s a place where people can indulge in good food and booze and enjoy the company with friends. But most of all, I think what makes Real Street in Coron the heart of the town is the community of local business owners helping each other to survive by promoting each others’ businesses and ensuring that the place is fun, safe, and relaxing for every guest.
