Longing to experience living at the country side to escape the hustle and bustle of city life? The King of Sinulog is off for an overnight stay at De Alegre Travellers Inn (hotel rates) located in Barangay Locon in Alegria. Read on as I share to you what this simple bed and breakfast has to offer.
From Mactan Cebu International Airport, hail a white taxi cab to Cebu South Bus Terminal and pay about PHP300 for more than an hour’s drive. Hop on one of the yellow Ceres Buses plying to Bato via Barili and tell the bus ticketer to drop you off at Brgy. Locon in Alegria right across a blue Petron Gasoline station and pay not more than PHP150 for a 3-hour land travel.
After a whole morning of chasing waterfalls in the town of Ginatilan namely Inambakan, Bugnawan and Kampael falls, we decided to head over to Alegria to continue our adventure. We were indeed exhausted after trekking a few kilometers uphill escorted by our friendly guide at the same time learning about the etymology of the waterfalls’ names. According to local stories, the falls was called Inambakan because the water outlet looks as if it jumped from the edge of the cliff. Bugnawan on the other hand was called as such since the water was weirdly cooler compared to other falls. Lastly, Campael is a coined term of ‘kang Raphael’, which means the area was owned by a landlord named Raphael.
Meeting up at a Julie’s bakeshop, we decided to ride a tricycle to De Alegre Travellers Inn and paid PHP200 one way. Arriving at the resort, we were greeted by the owner herself, Ms. Celsa Obial. At first glance, you’ll see that the inn looks like a modified residential house, adding rooms here and there. We were then escorted to the bamboo lodge, a newly-constructed building adjacent to the inn towards our family room.
We stayed at the air-conditioned family room at the Bamboo Lodge at PHP1,200 a night good for four persons. The room is simple and functional with varnished wooden floors. There were two queen-sized beds with standard mattresses and pillows. The room has curtained windows, a cabinet and a working space. However, there is no private restroom and we have to walk a few steps to reach the common bathroom shared by a couple other rooms in the bamboo lodge. The bamboo lodge also has a common patio with a view of the rocky beach of Alegria which also serves as a clothes drying area.
The resort has two types of guestrooms, private two-person capacity rooms at the main building and the family rooms at the bamboo lodge. It also has a reception area with a mini convenience store, lobby lounge with television, free WIFI and telephone service. They also have a dining area good for 8 people in one setting and a kitchen that serves breakfast at PHP120 per set meal. You may also arrange a cooking request for certain meals of the day. Beside the dining area is the common area where the guests could have a friendly conversation. If you want to swim or frolic at the shoreline, there’s also an access way below the bamboo lodge right along the grilling area to the beach. They also have a parking space right up front that could accommodate about 10 vehicles.
At the time of our stay, the owner was very hands on with our inquiries and requests and made sure that all our needs were met. Their receptionist was also very approachable and helpful.
Overall, if you’re looking for an affordable place to crash in Alegria and you prefer it close to the beach with friendly and helpful staff, then look no further and book a stay at De Alegre Travellers Inn.
