Travel Gadgets: KingCom S!gma Evo Smartphone

KingCom S!gma Evo Smartphone Review

KingCom, the leading Micro SD company, is turning out to be a new but relevant player in the smartphone industry. Last year, they came out with their debut product: the S!gma Stone. Just several months later, they launched the KingCom VENUS.

The reaction of the market to these products seemed lukewarm at best. However, the market has developed, and now they have come up with another new product: the S!gma Evo. We are trying it out and giving you the run down on what we think of this new smartphone from KingCom.

Let’s start by breaking down what the S!gma Evo is all about.

As soon as see it, the first thing that comes to mind is that I like the way it looks. It is minimalist, clean and elegant. Almost all of the buttons are on the sides and the connectors are on top, which leaves the surface looking clean except for the home button. This is standard for most smartphones, anyway. It is very light and fits snugly in to your hand. The backing is rubberized, which ensures that it won’t slip in your grip when holding it.

Let’s look at the specifications in detail.
• 1.4gHz Octa Core Processor
• 13MP Rear Camera and 5MP Front Camera
• 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM
• 2200mAh Battery
• 5′ HD Super AMOLED Display
• 7.6mm Thickness
• Android 4.4.2 KitKat/Bluetooth 4.0; 3G; WiFi
• Finger Print Scanner
• Screen Gesture/Gesture Sensing

Now let’s break it down.

Display

The display is very good with a resolution of 1280 x 720. The images are clear and sharp.

Processor

The processor is a bit slow at 1.7Ghz, but it is fast enough to handle multi-tasking and hardcore gaming. The 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM more than compensates for the processor speed.

Cameras

The cameras are just standard. However, I don’t understand why the resolution of the front is so much lower than the rear facing one.

Other Features

It has the usual smartphone features such as WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS plus it supports dual SIM. The basic package also comes with some welcome add-ons: screen protector, a windowed case and an extra battery.

Woot woot!

Inserting the SIM card, Micro SD card and battery is easy. The back panel is easily removed and replaced. It even has instructions on the back surface on how to do it.

The fun features I like about this phone is the screen gesture/ gesture sensing and the fingerprint sensor. At a retail price of PhP 7,998.00, we didn’t expect these types of features to be included.
The finger scanner feature keeps your phone secure. The built-in fingerprint app makes use of your fingerprint as your password to unlock your phone and your data. This is very similar to that of the iPhone.

With the gesture sensing feature, you can give your phone commands by just moving you hand sideways in front of the screen without touching your phone. For example, when viewing several pictures, you can slide to the next picture by moving your hand left to right in front of the screen. The screen gesture feature lets you use your phone even when it is on sleep or locked mode. Coolness!

This is definitely a neat phone that’s worth trying out especially with its affordable price. The KingCom S!gma Evo is available exclusively on Lazada for only Php7,998 and comes with a free Solo II headset and 1-year warranty.
