Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point
La Union has been known as “The Surfing Capital of the North” but there’s more to discover in this Northern province other that its surfing spots. One of the main reasons why La Union is one of the best place to visit is its friendly people, colorful history, sumptuous food, its proximity to Baguio City and first class accommodation options like the Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point.

Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point Review
Everyone knows I love to travel, but sometimes it’s just not possible to go as far as I want to due to my work schedule and online marketing projects. I’ve been wanting to visit Greece but I don’t have the time or the money for it but thanks to Thunderbird Resorts Philippines for inviting us in their property. I’ve been hearing praises about this new resort in San Fernando La Union which is modeled after Santorini Island, the Greek Island in the Aegean Sea that just might be the closest thing to paradise on this blue planet.
Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point Lobby
Thunderbird Resorts are a fairly large chain, but the resort at La Union has only thirty six rooms and has prices that when compared to the luxury of the place are incredibly reasonable.
Best Vegetable Salad Ever
Nestled on a scenic cliff with a great alta vista of the sandy beaches facing the the South China Sea, it is located in the former Wallace airbase most popularly known as Poro Point. Being the only five star resort in the Northern Philippines, one can expect world-class services and amenities.
Surfing Lessons in La Union
A shuttle makes runs down to the beach if you don’t want to drive and you can always just stay in and order room service if you’re feeling sore from too much paddling the day before.
Sunset in Thunderbird Resorts
In addition to the friendly Ilocanos, La Union also have a great number of beautiful places to travel which includes beautiful beaches, historical and heritage sites, surfing spots, great nearby restaurants and some fun eye candy subjects to snap pictures of.
The Facade
With a Casino, Fantastic pool, poolside bar and very comfortable common areas for sitting, meeting other guests and lunging in total Greek style, the resort is a great place to be. Their daily buffet breakfast at Olives Restaurant is something that you shouldn’t miss…. Who doesn’t love an alfresco breakfast with great Pinoy food and overflowing coffee? One warning though, with the limited number of rooms you either have to plan ahead or get lucky to find available space at the Thunderbird Resorts.
This way to my room!
I know friends who have tried to book ahead several months only to find that there was nothing available. Don’t let that happen to you. Make sure that you either have a reservation or a back up plan but don’t worry, in worst case scenario, you can book in some hotels in San Fernando City then have a day tour at the famous resort.
Cliffs Golf Club
One of the things I love about the Thunderbird Resorts Poro Point is that it offers you the chance to visit a Greek setting without having to go all the way to Greece. The food is authentic and the decor is just perfect. Inside the rooms there are plenty of resources to help you figure out what to do.
Afternoon Colors:)
What I like about this resort is their consistent efforts to preserve the natural beauty of the property by having environment preservation program with the help of its employees. They recently had a coastal cleanup in cooperation with 350.org.
Just an hour flight and five hours drive from Manila and only 15 minutes away from one of my favorite surf spots, Surf Camp in La Union. Right on, I’m going to Greece in the Philippines. And the bonus? You can’t really surf in Greece.
The Thunderbird Resort at Poro Point is the perfect place for a romantic getaway or some time to decompress from life in Manilla.
