Thunderbird Resorts in La Union
You just gotta love living the good life. Eating good food, meeting new friends and dreaming for a vacation after it was over! Another day in Paradise is as simple as just strolling on down to the Thunderbird Resorts in La Union (resort info). It wasn’t what I planned to do last weekend, but since I was invited to visit and experience the Santorini inspired first class resort in Poro Point along with couple of blogger friends and some friends from traditional media, I just found myself spending “Another Day in Paradise”.
Early Morning in Santorini
Another day in Paradise, a song by Phil Collins was the last song played in the Taxi’s CD player before I finally got to the airport. The song just got stuck in my head and while waiting for everyone to arrive in the old domestic airport’s departure area, I just cant help myself from browsing the resorts brochure that I got from their booth at the Philippine Travel Mart. The photos are just incredible and I cant wait to have my own collection of photos that time…. Perhaps you figured out now where I got the title of my blogpost:)
Poro Point Dome
I’ve gotta say, it wasn’t the same as in the pictures and contrary to what we always think that the photos from the brochure will always be beautiful.. Man.. I can tell you that the photos in their marketing materials are huge understatement. I guess the simplicity of the blue and white color combination in the entire building captured me.
Chicken Inasal
The Thunderbird Resort (resort rates) is magnificent with it’s Santorini inspired architecture and awesome location. Sitting just off the gorgeous cliffs of La Union, it makes you feel like you are someplace far away from the Philippines, but still has the amazing natural beauty and climate of the Philippines.
Beautiful Spacious Room
It was raining when we arrived but the bright sunset colors made the view so romantic. We had our late lunch upon arrival in their Vegas Cafe. By looking at their menu, I think the prices were pretty good, less than I expected and the food was much more than I usually get in terms of quality and taste. Kudos to their Resident German Chef Michael Karl Gross who prepared our fantabulous lunch.
Thunderbird Resorts Golf Club
For dinner, we went back to Vegas Café for another fantabulous meal but this time its all about a love affair with Angus Steak. The food was even better than my favorite Angus Steak in Manila, but that might have something to do with the company. Although, now that I think about it the Greek architecture and ambiance might have had something to do with it too.
Poro Point Beach Club
I felt like I was in another world. The girls wanted to head to the Fiesta Casino, which is pretty close by, and asked me if I wanted to join them. Of course I didn’t coz I know nothing about cards… seriously!.
Cliffs Golf Club
What about my room? I shared the room with Eric and we had a magnificent ocean view room with a spacious table, mini-bar, in-room kitchen, Jacuzzi-style bath, cable television, Free Internet connectivity, and a magnificent alta vista of the South China Sea.
Naturally Beatiful Sunset at the Poro Point
I can tell you that the jacuzzi tub was even better than I had imagined and in the morning, I woke up a bit tired due to lack of sleep but there was no way I was going to miss catching some surfing lessons at San Juan La Union (and that’s another story).

While I didn’t get much of a chance to use it due to intermittent disconnection, the Thunderbird Resort has wi-fi. They also have a shuttle that takes you to the beach, but since I was invited as a guest, I had no need to pay them. Man, that was a great day to start the week! I had Another day in Paradise!
