One of the worst things that can happen when you take a trip is to have your gear or equipment ripped off by some lousy thief. This is especially true when you are talking about expensive gear like camera equipment or computers. There are a number of things you can do to lesson the risk of getting your gear ganked, but probably the best thing you can do to keep from getting your expensive camera , lenses, and other equipment stolen is to get a Pacsafe Camsafe 100 camera bag.

As a Christmas present, I recently got a Pacsafe Camsafe 100 from Celine of Pacsafe Philippines. I immediately pulled out my Nikon D90 with (Pacsafe Carrysafe 100 Anti Theft Camera Strap) and Panasonic LX5 from its previous camera cases and immediately placed it in my new camera bag:) The result? A much smaller, safer and easy to carry camera bag, just in time for my 3 day holiday trip to Boracay before the year ends.

The Camsafe 100 gives you great security and can help to put your mind at ease, even if you have to go to areas where theft is common, pickpockets are thick, or your security is at risk. The Camsafe 100 is good for photogaphers that aren’t carrying too much equipment with them, at most this is a bag that can carry your camera, lenses, batteries, filters, and a lightweight tripod. If you want to carry more than that, just hire a big security guard to carry it all for you! (just kidding)

This bag doesn’t look like a camera bag, that is one of the first security features. It looks like a regular shoulder bag instead of something that is carrying your SLR and all your expensive flashes and gear. It’s a decent looking bag but doesn’t instantly tell thieves – “Hey, there’s a tourist with an expensive camera in that bag!” It’s not where the security features stop though.

The Camsafe 100 has a simple wire that is used as a lock to keep nimble fingers from opening your zippers. In addition the bag is slashproof which means that even if a thief figures you have some expensive gear inside the bag, they won’t be able to cut their way into the bag. If you have to leave your bag for a moment and want to do it securely, you can lock the bag and then use the slash proof strap to hold the bag in place, a built in combination lock makes the picture even better.

The zippers as previously mentioned are tamper proof and lockable though you can be sure that if you leave your bag for more than a few minutes, a determined thief will get it. Just carry your bag with you. One point of vulnerability is the plastic zippers since it would seem that application of a lighter could do what a knife is unable to accomplish.

In any event, it’s a nice looking bag and is much better than a big Nikon bag with no security measures whatsoever. Even if you get this bag though, excercise caution when you go to high risk areas such as subways or dark streets. A determined thief can always find a way if you are careless.

  2. after using this camera bag for a year only i wonder what happened to the straps, it now has broken wires (like small staple wires)that are harmful when carried the wrong way 🙁

    • i bought my first pacsafe item few years ago when it was only available at rustans.. it was a camera strap.. after using it for a few months the thin metal cables coming out from the straps.. I gave it to my brother and was eventually trashed because its not a safe product.. I never touched a pacsafe product again..
