Mactan Island in Cebu is one of the premier destinations in the country for those who are looking for a perfect beach destination. Over the last five years, new International Resort brands opened its door to the public and one of them is Mövenpick Resort and Spa (hotel info). Formerly Hilton Resort and Spa Cebu, the hotel was rebranded as Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu and reopened last December 2012.

Along with the country’s top food bloggers, we were invited to visit and experience the resort for a three nights of fun, food trip, relaxation and a little bit of adventure in between.
About the Hotel
The Movenpick Resort and Spa Cebu is Movenpick’s first property in the Philippines and marks the first step in its’ aggressive expansion plans for Asia. The five star resort consists of two hundred and forty six rooms, including seventy four spa suites and is owned by Oikonomos International Resources Corporation.
Deluxe King Bedroom
Mövenpick Resort and Spa is just 10 minutes ride by taxicab or private vehicle from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. The location is quite nice and they have their own private beach, which is not huge but certainly big enough for guests to enjoy themselves without feeling crowded.
The Forum Poolside Bar
The things that are most important to me were also more than satisfying, and I’ll go into more detail later. I also got a good tip that their Spa is really good but I had no time to try it out due to our jam-packed schedule.
Glass Enclosed Shower
Breakfast at The Sails restaurant was great. A nice spread, including both dishes that satisfies international and Asian palate, with cappuccinos and espressos available but for those who want a better coffee (Im not a huge fan of their regular coffee, but you should try their signature Movenpick Coffee… You will surely love it). Tip: Try their waffle – It’s the best waffle I have tasted so far:)
The Best Waffle Ever!
We also spent happy Tapas hour and dinner in the Ibiza Beach Club, which I enjoyed so much specially their Gambas and seafood paella. The food there was also good, with a dinner buffet for those who like that. We also tried their Churrasco dinner – it was a feast of various grilled meat being served one by one by their well trained waiters. Churrasco is a popular way of serving grilled food dinner in Brazil and the rest of South America.
Brazilian Music while having Churrasco Dinner
A total of 14 types of meat were grilled to perfection which include beef, chicken, lamb, pork and even seafood and these are cooked in a barbecue grill called churrasqueira. While enjoying the variety of grilled food, a spectacular fire dance coupled with Brazilian music and dance number was performed by in-house talents.
Churrasco Dinner at Movenpick Cebu
After our fantastic dinner, a simple yet fantabulous dessert was served. What is it? Its their famous Grilled Pineapple that is grilled with cinnamon and sugar served with Maple Walnut Ice Cream, pistachio and crushed Cashew nuts.
Overall, no concerns about quality of food except that perhaps it would keep you from going out to experience other food available in Cebu City, which you shouldn’t miss.
Water sports facilities are also available at the beachfront and can be arranged through their Lifestyle Concierge located at the lobby. The beach is open from 07:30 am to 6:00pm while their swimming pool is available from 7:ooam to 10:00pm. The Games Room, located at the end of the lobby opens from 10:00am to 10:00pm offering billiards and table soccer.

Amenities, Gym, Spa
Another key feature for me (always) is the WiFi. Good news, it’s free at the Mövenpick Resort and Spa in Cebu and it works. Nothing special, but consistent and free, which is all I ever ask for in a WiFi connection. Im glad the connection is fast enough which allows me to connect to WeChat. With their free internet, I was able to call and talk to my clients and travel buddies via WeChat for FREE!!!
There’s a pretty significant gym, which I toured rather than used. But the machines looked new and clean and the place has been nicely designed. Nothing too overwhelming, and the walls aren’t exactly thumping with music, but I can imagine that for some people it would take away from the experience.
And of course, I always like to talk about the staff because I think they can make or break any experience in a hotel. True to form, the Mövenpick Resort and Spa staff were all very helpful, inviting, and eager to keep me happy. They even helped me print my flight tickets an hour before I left the resort for my flight to Kuala Lumpur from Cebu. I never had one experience with someone who was less than generous and everyone greeted my requests with an honest and friendly smile.
Movenpick Cebu Infinity Pool
I stayed in the Deluxe Room with a king sized bed. The room is not that big, but includes a desk and large bathtub and shower in the bathroom. I was surprised that they providing Chopard Toiletries even on standard rooms. I highly recommend getting an ocean front room if you enjoy ocean views.
While views of the city are also interesting, let’s face it, we go to resorts on the beach in Cebu to see the beach. The Deluxe is certainly enough space for one person, but if you really want to feel at home you, and think you’ll spend a lot of time in the room, go for a suite with a jacuzzi bath.

All-in-all, I’d go back to the Mövenpick Resort and Spa, Cebu anytime and do things I havent tried doing like the watersports, spa and swimming at the pool or beach front.
