Market! Market! At 22: How a BGC Landmark Became a Home for Finds, Flavors, and Big Dreams
MANILA, Philippines – For many Filipinos, Market! Market! is more than a shopping mall. It is part of their BGC story.

Fiesta Market! regional carts
Over the past 22 years, the landmark destination has become a familiar meeting place for families, friends, shoppers, food lovers, entrepreneurs, performers, and visitors exploring Bonifacio Global City. From buying flowers for a special occasion to discovering a new local business, Market! Market! has built its identity around one simple idea: the fun is in the finds.
As Market! Market! celebrates its 22nd anniversary on September 16, the BGC destination looks back on the people, businesses, and experiences that helped make it a fixture in Metro Manila.
From Dampa Finds to a BGC Destination
When Market! Market! opened, Bonifacio Global City looked very different from the modern business and lifestyle district it is today.
The mall introduced an unconventional concept. It brought together experiences inspired by some of the Philippines’ best-known shopping and food destinations under one roof.
Think flowers associated with Dangwa, gadgets reminiscent of Greenhills, the bargain-hunting energy of Divisoria, and the seafood and paluto experience of a traditional dampa.
The result was a mall designed around discovery.
Visitors could shop for fresh produce, flowers, toys, gadgets, food, and everyday essentials in a single trip. They could also simply walk around and see what caught their attention.
That spirit remains central to Market! Market! today.

A Home for Local Entrepreneurs
Some of the mall’s most meaningful stories come from the businesses that grew alongside it.
Fiesta Market provided a platform for local entrepreneurs and vendors selling everything from fresh-cut flowers and regional produce to Filipino delicacies and toys.
Longtime establishments such as Tina Berin’s Flowershop, Rodem’s Fruits, Pelican Farms, and Edeng’s Toy Center became familiar names to generations of shoppers.
For many entrepreneurs, having a presence at Market! Market! created an opportunity to reach a larger Metro Manila market while maintaining the character of their businesses.
The mall also became a launchpad for companies that would eventually expand their presence across the country.
Japan Home Center opened its first store at Market! Market!, while Metro selected the mall for its first Metro Manila branch. These milestones reflect the mall’s role as a testing ground for brands and businesses looking to establish themselves in the capital.
The Market! Market! Theory
Market! Market! has also developed an unexpected connection with the Philippine entertainment scene.
Over the years, major local and international acts have taken the stage at the mall, including BINI, SB19, KATSEYE, and The 1975.
Some performances happened before these artists reached their current level of popularity. That coincidence eventually inspired what social media users began calling the “Market! Market! theory.”
The playful idea suggests that performing at Market! Market! could be a sign that bigger things are ahead.
Whether it is coincidence or simply a fun piece of mall folklore, the theory has become part of Market! Market!’s growing pop-culture identity.
It also reflects something the mall has consistently offered over the years: a physical space where emerging artists can connect with audiences.

22 Years of Everyday Memories
Market! Market!’s appeal comes from its everyday experiences.
For some visitors, it means picking up flowers before a date. For others, it means meeting friends after work, spending a weekend shopping with family, enjoying karaoke, or stumbling upon an unexpected purchase.
These ordinary moments have accumulated over two decades, creating a sense of familiarity that has helped the mall remain relevant through different generations.
The mall has also evolved alongside BGC. As the surrounding district transformed into one of Metro Manila’s major business, residential, dining, and entertainment hubs, Market! Market! continued to serve a broad mix of visitors.
That accessibility remains one of its defining qualities.
Looking Ahead: The Next 12 Years
Market! Market! is entering its next chapter with plans for continued investment and development.
Its lease with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority has been extended for another 12 years. The extension includes new investments to upgrade the mall and its facilities.
Connectivity is also expected to improve further with the planned Bonifacio Global Station of the Metro Manila Subway, which is set to be located within the property.
For a mall that has spent 22 years adapting to a rapidly changing part of Metro Manila, the upcoming developments could further strengthen its role as a major destination in BGC.
Keeping the Spirit of Discovery
Despite the changes around it, Market! Market! aims to preserve the character that made it distinctive.
Meean B. Dy, chairman of Station Square East Commercial Corporation and president and CEO of Ayala Land Inc., emphasized the importance of keeping the mall open, lively, and unpredictable, while continuing to provide opportunities for small businesses, artists, and new ideas.
That philosophy captures much of what Market! Market! has represented for 22 years.
It has been a place where established brands meet first-time entrepreneurs, where shoppers encounter unexpected finds, and where emerging performers get a stage.
After more than two decades in BGC, Market! Market! continues to evolve without losing its focus on discovery.
The next time you visit, you might arrive looking for one thing and leave with five unexpected finds. That has always been part of the Market! Market! experience.
