Mamma Mia in Manila
Mamma Mia! is one feel-good musical, which celebrates relationships among family, friends, and lovers through the powerful words and music of the legendary 70s pop group, Abba.
Thanks to producer Judy Craymer who had asked writer Catherine Johnson to write the story and involve ABBA members and composers Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, Mamma Mia! has turned out to be a huge success on West End productions since its conception on 1999 and on the 2008 film.

With enticing elements, as having a setting on a Greek Island paradise, a story revolving on a daughter’s quest to discover her real dad among three of her mother’s former lovers and the stirring melodies of Abba, the story is something worthy to impart in one’s memory, especially to the Philippine audience.
Mamma Mia, the Musical has certainly enthralled the audiences who watched this International cast’s performance at the Theater in Solaire, as presented in Manila by Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, Ticketworld, and Concertus Manila.
While the story begins with the daughter, Sophie (Lucy May Barker) reading the contents of her mother’s diary and her three possible fathers to the tune of “Honey, Honey”, the feel in the theater awakens with the anticipation for more fun and energetic performances. This was fulfilled by Sophie’s mother, Donna’s (Shona White) expressive number of “Money, Money, Money” and “Dancing Queen”.
The plot thus unfolds with the arrival of the three mystery men on Sophie’s wedding by her invitation. Upon discovering this, Donna exalts her excitement to the title song “Mamma Mia”.
