It’s China versus Germany on First Night of World Pyro Olympics 2009

The World Pyro Olympics 2009 kicks off with two of the most admired pyrotechnics companies around the globe this Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig – Glorious Entertainment of China and NIco Lunig from Germany.

Glorious Entertainment

China has a grand show in store for WPO 09. The ambitious display includes the construction of five scaffolding towers each measuring eight stories high. “We will build what we call THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA, a pyrotechnics effect never seen yet here in the Philippines,” prides Francis Wu, chairman of the Glorious Fireworks Company.

The show will utilize several traditional musical pieces, which will bring the audience to the world of ancient China – its dramatic rise, the many internal conflicts, its grandeur and opulence.

Glorious Entertainment Production has been in the pyrotechnics for more than 80 years. They won first place in the Thailand International Fireworks Competition, the Italian International Fireworks Competition, and the Grand Award for Artistry in the Pyrotechnics Guild International Gillette. The company has performed for the Asian Games, royal anniversaries, and major theme parks.

Nico Lunig

The precise and bold show by German company Nico Lunig will feature a diverse host of musical pieces, ranging from scores by Academy Award winner, composer and film scorer Hans Zimmer (“Rain Man”, “Driving Ms. Daisy”, “The Lion King”) to an aggressive piece by Berlin rock band Rammstein.

The company is known for its systematic approach and attention to detail, and use of the most technologically-advanced firing system.

NICO-Lünig has performed in China, Japan, Switzerland, France, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. One of the leading fireworks producers in Germany, they shoot annual shows Rhein in Flammen in Koblenz and Bonn, Rhein im Lichterzauber in Bingen/Rüdesheim, and Niederrhein in Flammen in Duisburg.

The five-day event will showcase other pyro companies from Australia, Korea, the U.S., Japan, Canada and defending champion Italy. Other firing dates are November 28, December 5, 12 and 19. La Mancha Group International of the Philippines, Audience Favorite and 2nd place Technical Jury awardee at the Zagreb International Fireworks Competition in Croatia earlier this year, will exhibit on the finale; along with a Fellowship of Fire featuring all participating countries.
