Opened the year 2008, this simple hotel is better than ever and continues to improve its services to adapt to its guests’ ever-changing needs. Here is my first-hand experience with four reasons why you should stay at The Maxwell Hotel Cebu City (hotel info).

Affordable room rates

With 72 guest rooms and 5 function rooms, there is room for everybody at The Maxwell Hotel Cebu City.

I stayed at the most affordable room, the superior room, competitively priced at Php 1,800 good for two persons with breakfast. The room was simple, neat and with basic amenities such as cable TV, an ample workspace, a telephone and a cabinet. The restroom was clean and functional with hot and cold shower.

What I love about room 313 was its coffee color palette that was very warm and calming which was important since the air-conditioning unit was freezing cold, which was great since we are in a tropical country. I had to turn the temperature knob a few notches higher though. Laughs.

I really appreciate having a great view of Escario street from my window and because I was at the back part of the hotel, traffic noise was at a minimum.

If you’re planning to host an event or a business meeting for a group of 25 people, you can avail of their most affordable function room for an hourly rate of Php1,000.

Major WIFI upgrade and new website with online booking

Though I booked the hotel using the old school method via email, thankfully with their website’s online booking, you can reserve your stay even when you’re not in the Philippines. How convenient is that?

What really surprised me was their WIFI speed. With top speeds reaching about 900 kilobytes per second, you can download an MP3 track in less than 5 seconds. Imagine that? This is good news especially for guests with online transactions or those into movie streaming like the King of Sinulog. Laughs. This is by far the fastest free internet connection I’ve ever experienced in all the hotels I’ve stayed. Cheers!

Walking distance to the most exciting dining and lifestyle establishments

On your left from the hotel is Escario Central and Capitol Square, strip malls with ATM banking, bars and excellent dining options. On your right is Ministop, a 24-hour convenience store for a quick cheap snack and basic buys.

Right across is the only Starbucks in Cebu with a drive through for your afternoon coffee fix or just a place to meet people. Ayala Center is also a few hundred meters away. Accessible via public or private transportation, what more could you ask for?

Outstanding add-on services

Satisfying breakfast at the Philippine School for Culinary Arts.

Located on a separate building, they serve customizable Western and Filipino plated breakfast prepared by trained professionals. If you’re more of a breakfast-in-bed person, you’re picture-perfect breakfast plate will be right up in less than 20 minutes.

Dinner and drinks at Ola Resto.

Located just right below the hotel, they serve American favorites and other gastronomic delights perfectly paired with their signature cocktails for a nightcap.

The guest-favorite Agua Spa.

Priced at Php400 an hour, it was the best massage I had ever since my buddies and I were stranded on an aromatherapy boutique in San Carlos City. The therapist was a very skilled professional as she addressed my stress points and weak spots that after the session, I just completely dozed off like a baby. I highly encourage leaving a good tip.

Open 24-hours, this establishment serves pure spicy lechon goodness just right below the hotel. With a perfect balance of spices and flavor paired with hanging rice (puso) and a coke in can to gulp it all down, this is one original Cebuano experience you surely don’t want to miss!
