Listening to oldies music

So, I’m wearing my new Mixcder E10 noise-canceling Bluetooth headphones and can’t believe how comfortable they are. I’m used to the free airline earbuds, those uncomfortable, ear hurting necessities of inflight entertainment, so the puffy clouds enveloping my ears are a wonderful experience. And the sound they produce – heaven! Listening to some favorite “oldies” on my smartphone I hear things I’ve never heard before. It is an amazing experience.

Pet Shop Boys

Switching channels, I’m listening to the Pet Shop Boys singing “Will-o-the-Wisp” when my phone rings. Suddenly the music stops and I’m talking on my phone through the tiny – but obviously very effective – microphone built-in to my left earpiece. My remarks are clear and understandable to my neighbor who called to complain about the concert we went to the night before. I told him I wish I had my new noise-canceling headphones on during the concert!

A most pleasurable experience

And that’s how my test of Mixcder’s new E10 noise-canceling headphones began – as a most pleasurable experience. Another day I had a noisy two-hour train ride to endure. Loud, squeaky announcements, boisterous passengers, and the roar of the train could have made it a very annoying trip. Instead, I put on my E10, synced it to my phone via Bluetooth, clicked on the noise-canceling ANC button and relaxed. The higher frequency noise was muted, while the lower frequency noise just went away. It was a peaceful trip for a change.

Switching between E7 & E10

Over the course of a few weeks, I had the opportunity to switch back and forth from the “old” Mixcder E7 to my new E10 just to compare their capabilities. What a difference a few audio generations make! Bluetooth went from 4.2 to 5.0, meaning it’s now 2x faster and has 8x the bandwidth for lower power usage and better, more stable sound transmission. In addition, the E10 charges about 1/3 faster, meaning after an initial 1.5-hour charge, it only takes an hour to fully charge it for all-day use. With improved sound quality and noise-canceling, the E10 is just an all-round better headphone.

Mixcder E10 is my favorite

Don’t get me wrong, I still like the E7 the same way I still like my “oldies” music. I’ll keep it as a backup, or get a Bluetooth adapter for my TV and wear my old headphones to keep the noise down during any late-night viewing. My Mixcder E10 will do the “heavy lifting” for me, on commutes and airline travel, and to just relax with a good tune!

The Mixcder E10 comes with a cable and adapter to hardwire it for inflight entertainment or if the battery is low. (Then it runs on the power from your phone, but the microphone won’t work.) There is also a charging cable, instruction booklet, and warranty. Lastly, the E10 folds flat to fit in its protective travel case.

Final Evaluation

At around $60 the E7 is a reasonably functional alternative. But the E10, with faster and more stable Bluetooth connectivity, faster charging, modestly better sound quality and noise cancellation, along with its slimmer design, make it the clear winner. For about $90 it’s a steal! I don’t know how I ever lived without one. And here’s a deal so you don’t have to either.
