C.O.R.A.L. Movement: Bringing Back the Beauty and Glory of Our Coral Reefs
The Philippines is the “center of the center” when it comes to marine biodiversity because of its immense number of species, fish and corals than any other marine environment on earth. However, at present, a large number of our coral reefs are at serious risk and have been slowly dying.
On April 22, 2018, a project that aims to bring back the beauty and glory of our coral reefs was launched in Sta. Cruz, Marinduque in celebration of the Earth Day with the presence of Miss Earth Philippines reigning beauty queens, Miss Philippines – Water 2017, Ms. Jessica Marasigan and Miss Philippines – Air 2017, Ms. Kim De Guzman as Miss Earth supports the C.O.R.A.L Movement.

C.O.R.A.L. Movement or the Conservation of Ocean Resources & Aquatic Life is an eco-advocacy and a program made by the Heirs of the World, Inc. (HOW), a non-stock, non-profit, non-government organization. It is a group of volunteers that is responsible in providing information and education in the cultivation of the coral reefs of our country.
The event was headed by Michelle Bautista-Tañada, President of the C.O.R.A.L. Movement organization with the enormous support of the Mayor and municipality of Sta. Cruz, Marinduque, Mayor Marisa Red Martinez. They firmly believe that through this ambitious project we can protect our marine biodiversity, we can save our environment.
C.O.R.A.L. Movement focuses on creating living Coral Park in the coastal areas of Marinduque, the Center and Heart of the Philippines and is aiming to boost eco-tourism, to give employment and livelihood opportunities to the locals, to involve the local community to the project through trainings and teachings, and to restore and conserve the Philippine coral reefs. The program is also targeting to set the record for the most number of seabeds in the world with 1, 000 seabeds in a span of a year.
To make a better world and legacy for the next generation, to make the Philippines as “The Coral Capital of The World”, and to bring back the spirit of ‘Bayanihan’ are just a few of the prime goals and objectives of the C.O.R.A.L Movement. This advocacy is a long-term commitment that is in need of full support from our countrymen. YES We Can, Because We Care.
As one nation, let’s all unite and save Mother Earth.
