Why You Should Pack Your Bags for Coron, Palawan
If you are looking for a beautiful, rustic, and relaxing place for your next vacation, then Coron, Palawan is the place for you! Visitors will see and experience clear turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, limestone rock formations, rich marine life, and nature’s best in Coron, Palawan. It is not surprising that Palawan is also known as the last frontier of the Philippines!

Coron and El Nido (also in Palawan) offer one of the best island hopping destinations in the Philippines. While Coron town (see photo above) does not have a beach (seashore) like El Nido, it is less commercialized, more accessible, budget-friendly, and rustic than El Nido.

A domestic flight from Manila to Busuanga (USU) Airport will bring you to Coron, Palawan. We took PAL Express to reach Coron.
Bangka
Coron, Palawan, is blessed with many pristine white-sand beaches and islands (some are not open to the public) that you can visit by booking an island-hopping day tour. We recommend booking your island-hopping day tour with Calamian Islands Travel & Tours, located near the pier.
Based on our 2 days with them, their guides were really professional, helpful, and friendly. You can also book day tours through your own resort, but when we compared the prices with our resort (Coron Westown Resort), we actually saved P200 per person by booking with Calamian.

We had lunch at Beach 91, which was prepared by the boatman on the bangka, and had a wonderful time swimming and kayaking in the clear blue waters. You can also snorkel or just simply enjoy this beautiful beach.
Malcapuya Island

Malcapuya Island is a 2-hour journey from the pier, but the sight of the stretch of powdery white beach makes the long journey all worthwhile.
Visitors can enjoy ice-cold beers, coconut juice, massage services, or relax in one of the hammocks under the trees. The beach cottages or huts are also available for rent should you want to stay overnight in Malcapuya Island.

Banana Island is home to one of the best beaches in the Calamianes, with pristine white sand and crystal-clear waters. We had our lunch here during our second island hopping day tour and spent some fun time snorkeling and kayaking around this little paradise.

Bulog Dos Island
Bulog Dos
Bulog Dos Island is situated very near the private beach of Two Seasons Coron, a 5-star luxury island resort in Coron. As we were contemplating whether to swim across to Two Seasons Coron, we were stopped by our guide, as it was a private beach and out of bounds for outsiders.

Siete Pecados
I found Nemo
Siete Pecados is a group of seven islands clustered together, with clear waters, breathtaking marine life, and beautiful coral reefs. Siete Pecados is one of the best snorkeling areas near Coron town and in the Calamianes.

Kayangan Lake

Kayangan is a Tagbanua term for “entrance”, meaning entrance to all other lakes. The lake contains brackish water, a mixture of 70% fresh water and 30% salt water. Kayangan Lake is acclaimed to be the cleanest and greenest lake in the Philippines and in Asia.

It was a little tiring climbing up and down the 100+ steps to reach the lake, especially since we didn’t eat much at breakfast, but it was exhilarating to take in the spectacular view of the turquoise lake, surrounded by majestic limestone rock formations, from the peak.
Kayangan Lake is great for activities such as taking photographs, riding a bamboo raft, swimming, snorkeling, or just lounging on the wooden platform surrounding the lake.

The spectacular sights of the beautiful corals and vibrant marine life just made my heart stop. It was simply awe-inspiring to look at such beautiful corals.

Twin Lagoon

Anyone who swims in these lagoons will experience changes in water temperature, a phenomenon known as a thermocline. As the water deepens, the temperature increases due to limestone deposits at sea level. The twin lagoons are divided by a limestone wall, and you can either swim through a small opening or climb up a ladder to reach the other lagoon during high tide.
This is also a great place for swimming and kayaking.
After Island Hopping – Mt Tapyas & Maquinit Hot Springs

If you still feel bursting with energy after the island hopping day tours and are raring to explore Coron, you can trek to the summit of Mt Tapyas (700+ steps) to catch the beautiful sunset or enjoy a relaxing pampering session in the Maquinit hot springs.
The hot spring is around 39-40 degrees and is best enjoyed in the evening (closed at 8 pm).

You can hire a tricycle to take you to the hot springs; it is the main mode of transport in Coron, Palawan.
