To further promote Medical Tourism in the country, the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council arranged our visit to Sunway Medical Center to visit their facilities. Along with other KOLs from Indonesia and Bangladesh, we explored the medical facility, from its grand lobby to its diagnostic and treatment areas.

Named as “Stand-Out Jury Award Hospital of the Year in Asia-Pacific 2021” and “Medical Tourism Hospital of the Year in Asia-Pacific” at APAC Healthcare & Medical Tourism Awards 2018, 2019, and 2020, the hospital is within walking distance of an array of amenities such as Sunway Lagoon theme park, Sunway Hotels & Resorts, Sunway Pyramid shopping mall, Sunway University.

Awarded by Frost & Sullivan 2021 and 2022 Malaysia Smart Hospital Company of the Year Awards, SMC has been at the forefront of adopting the latest technologies to achieve clinical excellence. SMC has also officially acquired the Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) digital system, uMI780.
This makes SMC the first hospital in Southeast Asia to have this technology. Meanwhile, SMC is collaborating with United Imaging Healthcare (UIH) in presenting uMI780. Using this technology, SMC optimizes molecular imaging protocols by reconstructing an artificial intelligence (AI) model for cancer diagnosis.
In 2021, Sunway Medical Centre acquired an additional state-of-the-art robotic surgery system. It made history by performing Malaysia’s first robot-assisted joint replacement surgery, with clinical outcomes of faster recovery, less pain, and 80% of patients able to walk without crutches by day 14 of follow-up, compared with 20% of patients who underwent conventional surgery.
In Dec 2022, Sunway Medical Centre marked the completion of 1,000 robot-assisted surgeries. The hospital’s commitment to advanced surgical techniques and technology has enabled it to perform more than 1800 robotic surgeries, offering patients faster recovery and reduced pain compared to conventional procedures.
These advancements have attracted Filipino medical tourists to Malaysia, who seek cutting-edge surgical solutions. Sunway Medical Centre procured the highly advanced da Vinci Si Surgical System in 2016, and their latest addition, the da Vinci Xi 4th Generation Surgical System, was the first of its kind in the country when it was launched in January 2022.
With its advanced surgical technology, the da Vinci Xi simplifies complex surgeries and enhances surgical performance, enabling SMC’s surgeons to achieve an extended range of motion and substantially improved vision during surgery.
Additionally, SMC’s Cancer Centre is equipped with various cutting-edge technologies for precise and intelligent cancer diagnoses and treatment, such as Radixact-X9 Tomotherapy, Leksell Gamma Knife ICON, TrueBeam STx variant, 4-D PET/CT Scanner, and Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT).
Sunway Medical Centre is affiliated with the University of Cambridge, the Royal College of Physicians, Royal Papworth Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine & Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia, to further meet the needs of medical education, training, and research.

Where to park at Sunway Medical Centre?
Multi-storey Carpark – Ample parking in both Tower A & Tower D carparks, including parking bays for pregnant mothers and parents with children below 12. Two dedicated parking bays are reserved for people with disabilities on each floor.
- Tower A: Parking Autopay Machines are available on the Ground Floor, 1st Floor, and 2nd Floor.
- Tower D Carpark opens on 13 March 2023 in phases. Parking Autopay Machines are available on all floors.
