1. Be More Responsible

Whether you’re the eldest, the middle child or the youngest, you’ll mature faster when you travel with people who are older or younger than you. If you’re travel buddies are younger, then they’ll look up to you and you’ll naturally feel an instinct to guide them. If you’re the younger one, then you’ll learn from your older companions. This is pretty normal, but when the youngster you’re guiding is your brother or sister, your sense of responsibility will be even greater. They say that the best way to find out what you know about life, is to teach it to another.

2. Great Quality Time

After the age of about 10, many siblings drift apart to form their own friendship groups , then they go to college, get jobs, maybe even work abroad and have their own families, so when you get the chance to travel with your family, grab it. It’s amazing and often surprising how much fun it can be to travel with people who have literarily known you since birth and know you better than anyone else!

3. You’ll discover more about your siblings

We probably think that we know all there is to know about our brothers and sisters, after all they’re family, right?! WRONG! The best thing about your family is that no matter how well we think we know them, they can always surprise us! Being together in new countries, meeting new people and experiencing new challenges and adventures, will show you sides of your siblings you may never have seen before. You could witness your sister overcome her fear of heights cliff-jumping into a lake, get to see you eighteen year old little brother chatting up girls in Spain!

4. Become closer

Shared experiences always bring us closer to the people we share them with – stories and pictures can only explain so much, only you will understand the feelings that came with those incredible moments. Often, your travel buddies will become some of your best friends for the rest of your life. Great friends will always be your friends, but family will always be family and they are the ones you know for a fact you will see at family gatherings, holidays, weddings and of course, your next great travelling adventure!

5. They’ve always got your back!

No matter what happens on the road, you can always count on family to stick with you if things go wrong and you need help. Often the same is true with friends as well, but when the going gets a little tough and you’re holding people back from moving on, you may find that your friendship wasn’t quite as strong as you thought it was. However, can you imagine your brother leaving you in a hospital bed in Myanmar to fend for yourself with a broken leg? Hell no! When no one else is left, family will always have your back no matter what.
