Walang Pasok: Work and Class cancellations for March 11, 2020 (Wednesday)

(Manila, Philippines) – UPDATE: The government suspended Classes in all levels in Metro Manila from Tuesday, March 10, to Saturday, March 14, 2020. The suspension of classes was a precautionary measure against the possible spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19.

Here is a list of schools and areas where classes have been suspended for Wednesday,  March 11, 2020.

Metro Manila

  • Caloocan City – all levels, public and private
  • Las Piñas – all levels, public and private
  • Makati City –  all levels, public and private
  • Malabon –  all levels, public and private
  • Mandaluyong City – all levels, public and private
  • Manila City – all levels, public and private
  • Marikina City – – all levels, public and private
  • Muntinlupa City – all levels, public and private
  • Navotas – all levels, public and private
  • Parañaque City – all levels, public and private
  • Pasay City – all levels, public and private
  • Pasig – all levels, public and private
  • Quezon City – all levels, public and private
  • San Juan City – all levels, public and private
  • Taguig City – all levels, public and private
  • Valenzuela City – all levels, public and private

Central Luzon

  • San Jose del Monte, Bulacan – all levels, public and private (No Classes until Saturday, March 14)
  • Capaz, Tarlac – all levels, public and private (No Classes until Saturday, March 14)

CALABARZON

  • San Mateo, Rizal – all levels, public and private (No Classes until Friday, March 13)

What is Coronavirus?

Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that may cause illness in animals or humans.  In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The most recently discovered coronavirus causes coronavirus disease COVID-19.

What is COVID-19

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.

Symptoms of Coronavirus Disease 2019 / COVID-19

Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death.

Department of Education (DepEd) Class Suspension Guideline:

  • DepEd Calls on parents to determine whether their children should go to school during typhoons, floods and other calamities in the absence of official announcements from DepEd.
  • In the absence of storm signal warnings, LGU are expected to announce whole day class cancellations not later than 4:30AM or half-day class suspensions not later than 11:00AM.
  • Storm signal warning declared by PAGASA between 10:00pm and 4:30AM reflect the whole day cancellation of classes in appropriate levels in the affected areas.
  • Storm signal warnings declared by PAGASA by 11:00AM automatically suspend the same day’s afternoon classes in appropriate levels in the affected areas.

*Suspension of classes for the tertiary level (colleges and universities) will be at the discretion of school management.
