Travel Gadget : Huawei E587 Pocket WiFi

What is Pocket Wifi? I got this weird question when I’m looking for one in Low Yat Plaza in Kuala Lumpur. A Pocket WiFi is the latest WiFi enabled 3G modem and is the perfect portable wifi hotspot device. It’s small so you can put it into your pocket or small camera bag to stay connected when you on the move.

HUAWEI Mobile WiFi E587 is a high-speed packet access mobile hotspot. It is a multi-mode wireless terminal for single office/home office, business professionals and full time blogger like me. If in case its your first time to visit my blog, I am a full time travel and food blogger and photographer. I occasionally write for glossy magazines If I have extra time.

Since I practically work anywhere and I usually bring more than one wifi enabled gadget like my Macbook, iPhone and iPad. I really need a Huawei E587 which can support 5 Wi-Fi devices connecting to it. This gadget allowed me to stay online anytime and anywhere that has a 3g mobile signal.

This type of device is useful specifically to people like myself and and other bloggers in the sense that most of us represent a growing trend in non-traditional office use. Most of freelancers can practically work in any coffee shop but not all of them has a reliable WIFI connection. For a while, this meant working from home or working where there was a wireless connection.

However, we always wanted the ability to go places to work where there has no WiFi, such as the park, some coffee shops and surprisingly some libraries. With the Huawei E587, this desire has been met.

On our first test with the Huawei E587 Pocket WiFi, I was able to connect my Mac and PC devices with ease. I ran my iPad, MacBook Pro and iPhone, plus my other Net Book and Blackberry.

The link was high speed and did not lag even when playing games on the tablet while I streamed YouTube HD movie trailers on my MacBook Pro as I also check emails and doing some video conferencing once in a while.

With this small gadget, I found the user interface friendly and easy to set up. I was at the park yesterday for 4 full hours without having to charge although the manufacturer claims the battery can last up to a half hour longer. If you are planning to buy your own pocket wifi, you can buy in Greenhills or in some classified ads website online.

Will I recommend it? Definitely YES!!!
