Smart sees mobile gamers benefitting from Smart 5G
Manila, Philippines — Smart Communications, Inc., the wireless arm of PLDT, thinks that Smart 5G benefits its mobile games and esports market.
In fact, the athletes from The Nationals, which is the first and only franchise-based esports league in the Philippines, participated in the 5G-powered esports exhibition match which was held at PLDT headquarters in Makati City.
Athletes of Cignal Ultra Warriors and PLDT-Smart Omega made use of the latest 5G handsets along with the 5G network of Smart in the said match. These handsets include OPPO Reno 5G, Huawei Mate 5G, and ZTE Axion 5G.
Smart is also planning to deploy indoor 5G coverage in a bid to support The Nationals’ esports teams in their training.
It can be recalled that the Philippines notched quite a few gold medals in esports events – such as Mobile Legends, DoTA 2, and Starcraft 2 – in the recently concluded 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Smart President and CEO and PLDT Chief Revenue Officer Alfredo S. Panlilio said that the company is a staunch supporter of this industry which is undeniably growing day by day.
“Part of this commitment is making the best of our technologies available for the advancement of esports in the country,” said Panlilio.
That’s not all smart is dishing out for mobile gamers. In fact, the company joined hands with Sibol, the Philippine national esports team during the 30th SEA Games. The company gave out incentives for the athletes that bagged gold.
The company likewise set up a special 5G showcase at the New Clark City in an aim to show off new apps that made possible by the 5G technology to fans in the Philippines.
For the uninitiated, the 5G, which stands for the fifth-generation wireless broadband technology, touts extremely high speeds along with lower latency that are deemed important factors to deliver improved gaming experience.
The Commissioner of The Nationals Darren Vitug seems excited at what 5G offers to The Nationals’ athletes, particularly the lower latency, allowing them to maximize response times.
This is also beneficial in terms of instant download of replays and access of VODs for strategy phases and reviews.
