Philippines To Host Miss Universe 2016
Updated: July 28, 2016
The Philippines has been the center of attention this year, especially because our very own Pia Wurtzbach won the title of Miss Universe 2015 (official website). And now, there has been a lot of news circulating that the Philippines is highly-considered to host the international pageant’s 2016 edition.
The last time that the Philippines hosted Miss Universe pageant was in 1994, in which Charlene Gonzales represented the country. Last January, the Miss Universe president Paula Shugart said in an interview that this is the right time to let Philippines hold the international pageant once again.
During Wurtzbach’s exclusive interview with Boy Abunda, wayback in April this year, she revealed that she has been actively campaigning for Miss Universe to choose Manila Philippines as host of the 2016 pageant.
Whenever she gets a chance to hold the microphone and speak in front of the press media, she always tries to tell them how much she, the whole organization of Miss Universe, and even Ms. Paula Shugart, want the pageant to be held here in the Philippines.
To make this happen, the organization needs not only sponsorships but also the Philippine government’s approval.
Finally, after Wanda Corazon Teo, Philippine’s Department of Tourism Secretary, announced today at press conference in Makati that the Miss Universe Pageant will be held in the Philippines.
And because the next Miss Universe Pageant will be on January 2017, this will make Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach the Miss Universe winner with the longest reign.
Teo also said that some of the places where segments of the beauty pageant will probably take place are Boracay, Cebu, and Palawan. These places topped Travel & Leisure magazine’s World’s Best Islands 2016 awards.
