Dormitos: The First Japanese-style capsule dormitel in the Philippines

Dormitos, Manila — Do you live far from your office and wanted to escape the traffic for weeks or months, maybe? Reviewing for the board exam? Backpacking? How about attending an important event in the North area, but you live down south – and you’re left with no options than to brave the hideous traffic in the metro. It’s draining, isn’t it?

However, some of the young professionals who live around the metro choose to do staycations on weekends or somewhere they could finish off some work – but having second thoughts on booking a place because of their allotted budget.

But guess what! A dormitel has recently opened in the Philippines to solve all of our problems. And can you believe it? You only get to spend $16 or Php 800 per night in this futuristic capsule!

Where is Dormitos

Dormitos is strategically situated in the bustling Cubao area, near malls like Gateway, Shopwise, and dining areas in Manhattan and interesting finds at Cubao Expo. Araneta Coliseum and New Frontier Theatre are also nearby!

Owned by Mr. Abraham Uypeckcuat, the dormitel has got its name from his child’s favorite snack, which is Doritos. They opened their business on the 12th of January 2019 and received positive feedback from both local and foreign visitors.

They have 100 pods, 40 pods for the male visitors, and 60 for the females.

Upon catching up with Ms. Lizette, the manager of Dormitos, she mentioned that they have their own water line and generator. So water and electricity interruption is not a huge problem.

What’s Inside the Pod

After the seamless check-in, the very kind and accommodating staff handed us our towels and toiletries. We were also given 2 keycards, one for the door and the other for the pods, and then keys for the free use of their locker.

Stepping in the hallway feels like you’re transported straight to Japan or into another world rather. The pod is 8 ft x 4 ft and is equipped with a comfortable mattress, memory pillows, a mood light, a built-in mirror, a mini-vault, charging station, an air fan, and a smoke detector.

Plus! There’s a detachable table at the side of the sliding door in case you wanted to get some of your work done at the comfort of your pod. WiFi is also available, and the password will be given upon check-in.

Not to mention! Their bathroom is super clean and smells good too! And as a courtesy to other guests, noise should be kept at a minimum level.

You can invite other guests, but they’re only allowed only in the lounge area. Drinking of liquor or any alcoholic beverage inside the premises is also prohibited.

Where to Eat

Just in case you get hungry, you can head over to their pantry and feel free to pre-heat your own meals. You can also visit the 7-11 located on the ground floor. And also, eating is strictly prohibited inside the pod area.

Final Verdict

What makes Dormitos stand out from the other dormitels is, first of all – their location. Everything is 3 minutes away from Dormitos. A 10-peso tricycle ride or a swift jeepney ride will go to Ali Mall to bus stations, universities, and hospitals. It’s so convenient!

As for the rate, it’s worth it. For only Php 800 a day, you get to use their pod, free drinking water, locker, shoe rack, a clean bathroom with a hot and cold shower, and their uber-fast WiFi. They are currently on their 50% off promo, so if you book here for a month, you’d only pay Php 8,000!

There’s also an available laundry shop called “Mr. Laba Luvah” that offers a special discount for members and guests.

The overall ambiance is 5/5 for us, especially when it comes to privacy and security. CCTV’s are also installed on the premises for added security. While Dormitos caters to both men and women, the card ensures that we’re only allowed to have access to our designated floors. Everyone’s so warm and very accommodating. Feels like home away from home.
