Marco Polo Ortigas Manila Review

Why foreigners choose to stay at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila (A Canadian’s review)

With a 2017 Five-Star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila (hotel info) is on the list of many who desire pure luxury. During my staycation and upon talking to other guests, I’ve come to understand why international businessmen and foreign families alike choose to stay at the dubbed only “sky hotel” in the country.

1. You don’t have to give up your workout

The perfect getaway is a balance of indulgence without sacrificing lifestyle. I was relieved to find the hotel’s health and wellness center on the 22nd floor which caters to even the most athletic of guests. The gym is open 24/7 with qualified trainers on stand-by until 10pm.

Take advantage of the complimentary high intensity 30 minute Tabata Class and Flow Smoothie included during your stay. As a swimmer, the hotel pool is the make or break of my staycation. While the indoor infinity pool was beyond refreshing, the floor lights which divides the pool into lanes received my seal of approval. Before you leave, I highly recommend the Flow Signature Massage held at Flow Spa on the same floor.

I began my session with an optional 10 minute steam bath before completely falling asleep to a 90 minute full body massage featuring Thai stretching and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi strokes. I’ll be sure to return regularly as the Flow Spa is open to the public.

2. The perfect Tea Time

There’s nothing like afternoon tea overlooking the Ortigas business district. Satisfaction was found in freshly steeped jasmine accompanied by a tower composed of sausage rolls, English scones, sliced meats and adorable desserts. In my opinion, the Connect Lounge provides the optimal atmosphere to gossip with your titas/girlfriends or hold a casual business meeting for two.

In the lobby, Café Pronto provided an array of savory sandwiches and decadent desserts such as freshly made churros and mini cakes. I was introduced to the Marco Polo’s Signature Earl Grape Iced Tea and I can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever had. De-stress with a refreshing blend of rich decanted black tea poured onto flower-infused ice cubes and chilled grapes.

3. The 44th and 45th floor

Lung Hin specialises in upscale Cantonese cuisine served à la carte. A bite of the chef recommended steam pork siomai with foie gras and truffle sauce was enough to make my palette swoon. All the dishes were familiar yet elevated making a visit to the 44th floor an easy choice for date night or family dinner.

Lastly, I ended the night with evening drinks at the Vu’s Sky Bar and Lounge. While the music created an upbeat atmosphere, it was low enough for meaningful conversation. The lounge area provided different seating arrangements to admire the highest view in the district.  My favorite drink of the night was the Sapphire Road cocktail, sweet and extravagantly served on a bed of dry ice.

4. Fall asleep and wake up to a view that screams “you made it”

There is a deep satisfaction that is found at the Marco Polo Ortigas Manila. I woke up the next morning by the natural light of a gloomy day. The provided superior room had an unobstructed view even as I laid in the bathtub. While the panoramic valley and mountain scenery from only sky hotel in the Philippines is undoubtedly breathtaking, it is the facilities, signature tea and breakfast noodle station at the Cucina that made my staycation picture perfect.
